I just got done with Spring Breakers. It was jarring. There isn't really a cohesive plot, it's almost satire. It's really messed up. It's also kind of beautiful, and it constantly keeps you uncomfortable, intentionally so. If you're offended by drugs, nudity, cursing, and just overall messupedness, don't watch it. In fact, if you're over 35, don't watch it.

The acting is amazing, in particular James Franco. Just really incredible. Selena Gomez feels like she steals the show, but she's kind of the least sympathetic character in the movie. She's kind of the protagonist, but kind of not, and really it picks up and goes off the rails once James Franco shows up.
I'm over 35 ... watched it twice, liked it both times, as it's edgy, a bit hedonistic, and a bit disturbing. I don't think age has anything to do with whether or not a movie is good/bad/likeable/appropriate/whatever.

IMHO, when it comes to entertainment of any kind, (music, movies, TV, etc.), I think it's best to greet new things, (and people), with an open mind, whatever your age.

Yeah man ideally everyone could watch everything with an open mind and come to things without allowing their moral sensibilities to directly influence whether or not they find it enjoyable. But if Im talking to my neighbor with 3 kids Im not gonna say, 'you should really watch this movie'. I'll never forget the time I made an adult think I was a degenerate at 17 because I went on for hours about how good pulp fiction is.

And it is that good, just..sometimes these movies that push the boundaries, it's not something you recommend to the general public. That's just pragmatic.

Elysium ... loved it, though I'm an admitted sci-fi freak. Had all the elements I enjoy in such movies, and was just plain fun, (with some cool surprises and amazing CGI).

I would call it the surprise of the summer, to this point, as I heard/saw very little about it in advance of it's opening. Will probably see it again before it's run in the theaters is over, and that's a pretty big rec for me.

Saw "The Butler" last night.  I wanted to love it, and half of me did...but...I thought all the stars in cameo roles were not that good, and were mostly distracting.  I really haven't made up my mind yet about the movie.  I was around from the Kennedy years on (I was in High School when Kennedy was shot), and closely following the events and the civil rights movement at that time.

For no apparent reason I watched both That's My Boy and Men in Black 3 on Sunday.  I guess I was longing for the past a bit, but really no self respecting 34 year old married man should ever watch that combination of movies.  MIB3 wasn't that bad though and That's My Boy was just so wrong that I couldn't stop watching it (it is not a good movie though).

From what I've read, the movie is highly fictionalized.

Every time I think, something is just wrong with this, I think...but it was through one man's experience, and he had a bird's eye seat.  That is why I haven't criticized any of the historical things.  The presidents seemed so wrong, somehow, to me, but it may have just been the "I know that actor, who is he?" and "gee...Robin Williams is so talented" distractions, or that I remember those presidents (through tv and film).   It has gotten some excellent reviews and sure has made a lot of money.

The Haunting was on tv this week... It's amazing how three great actors such as zetajones, neeson and Wilson can be involved in such a terrible terrible project. Oh how bad the script is... And oh how I watched the whole thing.

I hear ya. Josh Brolin (hope I got that right) did a ridiculously awesome job at playing Tommy. Either that, or he's just a perfect cast. Either way works.

As for "That's my boy" - it starts off pretty jawdroppingly (that's a word, yes) ridiculous, then goes on to become the average movie, where you just wait for "that moment". It did the same for me.

31 in a week, not married but living with my girlfriend, and I still feel I fall into that same category that you just described ;)

I went and saw KickAss 2 the other night.  It was fun, but typically not as good of a plot as the original.  I got a lot of laughs out of it though.  I had to double check that I had Jim Carey's character correct!

Yesterday I watched Big Fish for the first time in a long time.  I really love that story.

When Danny Deveto scratches his face with his foot always gets me...

I went to the cinemas to watch The Conjuring last Friday, good movie, well made!  There were scenes where the hair on the back of my neck stood up...and that's pretty hard to do for me - picture Paranormal Activity crossed with The Exorcist.
Also, I watch Gatsby on DVD 2 days ago - not bad - not great either, I wasn't sure what to expect, but, I don't know, it just didn't do it for me.

Saw 'The World's End.' Obviously really good, and really, really funny. Nick Frost kicks a ton of butt. A lot more John Hughesish than I would've thought.

Upon first watch I'd say its a step behind 'Shaun of the Dead' and 'Hot Fuzz.' But I know they're pretty big on 'The Simpsons' model of making sure there's jokes/stuff you'd only get  upon watching it multiple times.
