Star TRek - Into Darkness; I don't get the movie; It was almost purely from the standpoint of Kirk;

Rewatched World War Z with the missus; - An okay flick IMHO;
Peavey Bass Player - relearning to play after 10 years sucks;

Saw 'The World's End.' Obviously really good, and really, really funny. Nick Frost kicks a ton of butt. A lot more John Hughesish than I would've thought.

Upon first watch I'd say its a step behind 'Shaun of the Dead' and 'Hot Fuzz.' But I know they're pretty big on 'The Simpsons' model of making sure there's jokes/stuff you'd only get  upon watching it multiple times.

Loved it!  They actually tricked me into thinking I'd misunderstood the title.

Yeah, Im gonna pretend to do a trifecta date-night and have the wife and I rewatch SOTD, HF, then BAM! Movie out for Worlds End. I love those first two movies in an unholy kind of way, and I won't be robbed by my shoddy memory the first time around.
I had to drag myself away from Shaun of the Dead last night.  Bed time was calling, but I kept wanting to see the next part again.

I watched most of the Hurricane again the other night.  No one does righteous indignation like Denzel.
Yup

I think Paul is absolutely hilarious.

Went and saw Pacific Rim last night. It was absurdly awesome. Big budget, over the top, 2 hours of absolute intense craziness. I was in at awe at how someone can take something like that from their mind and put it on a screen like that. Mindless blockbuster entertainment and it did the job perfectly.

just watched Oblivion.  Liked it a lot.  didn't go how I thought it would go for the most part.  Saw a couple of plot twists coming but not too much before they were revealed.  (take that for what it's worth, either the writing/plot is pretty decent or I'm not too bright -- your pick.)

Watched Rush yesterday. Very good film. And this is from someone who doesn't like NASCAR, F1 and race cars in general.

Both leading actors did a commendable job in their roles. I highly recommend this film to all viewers (maybe not little kids).

  • No no no, not THAT "Eric M Van".
The Butler

I'd give it a 7.5/10

I did see it at the Sundance Kabuki Theatre and I'd give that a 10/10.

World War Z.

When I see trailers for zombie/virus movies I always say "ugh, another one...No interest" Then I see them and Im a big fan (28 Days later, I am Legend, Shaun of the Dead, Rise of the Planet of the Ape (even if it was only the end)). But World War Z was definitely a good flick and as usual Brad Pitt was the man. What a career resume that dudes got.

As an aside...it was difficult getting my husband to go see it because Jane Fonda is in it.  Some people have a long memory, and a hard time getting over what "Hanoi Jane" did in Vietnam.  Kind of a slap in the face of veterans to cast her as Nancy Regan.

I am somewhat young and did not fully remember how she got that nickname. Thanks. I googled Hanoi Jane and have come to realize that I hate Jane Fonda.

Our family friend had PTSD from NAM. He lived with us for many years and I experienced many harsh realities on how NAM really ruined his life. This Jane Fonda should go to hell.

Fonda called returning POWs "hypocrites and liars," adding, "These were not men who had been tortured. These were not men who had been starved. These were not men who had been brainwashed. ... Pilots were saying it was the policy of the Vietnamese and that it was systematic. I believe that's a lie."

I was lucky enough to have missed Nam by a year or so, but many had and have many friends and acquaintances that were not so lucky. There is a large amount of anger at her still from my experience with these people.

Not having been impacted directly by the war and her remarks, I can pass them off as a young person saying stupid and doing stupid things. I'd hate to be judged on stupid things I did or said years ago but no on heard what I might have said or done for the most part. For some reason, people give credence to what celebrities say or have opinions about. We probably shouldn't care anymore about their opinion than anyone elses.

It's good to have the whole story when considering what she did because the truth has gotten lost over the ensuing years

Of course, there are those that think SNOPES is a liberal apologist, I shrug my shoulders at that and don't believe any amount of "proof" could convince someone with that attitude otherwise.

Ms Fonda did apologise, those impacted can accept it or not. I somewhat understand if they don't but my dad fought in WW2 and he's not mad at Lindbergh, at least not anymore.

Saw Prisoners today.

Thought it was a good film, but I didn't enjoy the pacing. The acting performances were great on all accounts.

Kinda dragged too long in my opinion, maybe intentional or by design.
