Hey guys, might be slightly OT but it's still movie related so i hope it's ok.
Been getting into a western phase lately (after seeing Deadwood, Justified and 3:10 to Yuma) and was hoping i could get some good recommendations here.

Never saw much westerns and while i could look up some lists on the internet; i trust your opinions more so lay it on me.

Thanks in advance.

Tombstone is a personal favorite.  Unforgiven too.

I just started watching Deadwood and I'm loving it.
Yup

Western?  Lonesome Dove!   ( My all time favorite.)  Have seen it a half dozen times, and even read the book.

For my money Blazing Saddles is the funniest movie ever. Josie Wales wasn't Clint' s finest, but it was s too darn good, and it had some classic Clint lines.  My favorite:

Young Guns is pretty cool too. Really enjoyed both of those, especially part 2.

Yeah, agree ... I think my favorite Clint is High Plains Drifter, though I wouldn't say it was his best ... just like it best on a personal level, the whole (spoiler) "ghost returns for retribution" thing.

Blazing Saddles is really an amazing movie, so incredibly funny, and yet deals straight-ahead with racism and it's fallout in a way few movies had done to that point, (and since, for that matter).

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
I just got done with Spring Breakers. It was jarring. There isn't really a cohesive plot, it's almost satire. It's really messed up. It's also kind of beautiful, and it constantly keeps you uncomfortable, intentionally so. If you're offended by drugs, nudity, cursing, and just overall messupedness, don't watch it. In fact, if you're over 35, don't watch it.

The acting is amazing, in particular James Franco. Just really incredible. Selena Gomez feels like she steals the show, but she's kind of the least sympathetic character in the movie. She's kind of the protagonist, but kind of not, and really it picks up and goes off the rails once James Franco shows up.
