I think Danny's already demonstrated the value in developing trade-able assets, even if it's from late 2nd rounders and they're traded away rather than kept.

But I think Danny's also demonstrated how he values the defensive-minded among young players.  Just think if your Eddie replacement were a shooter/scorer who played top-tier D, could bring the ball up against anyone and competently run the team while he was in there.

Still, I think there's a role for Lester here by spring '10.

Well, he's going to have to displace Eddie House to have a "role" for himself by this spring.  Because there isn't going to be room in a playoff rotation for both of them.  And I really don't see that happening.  Even if Hudson miraculously outplays House by then, there's no way he's going to win Doc's trust enough to displace House in the playoff rotation.

No, Hudson doesn't replace Eddie in the playoffs.  But I bet he's suited up and he plays a bit.

How?  Rondo, Allen, and Pierce will all play 36+ mpg.  There's no way there's enough minutes for anyone beyond House and Daniels.

Walker and Pruitt played "A bit" in the playoffs. Nothing major, but if he dresses he'll probably see times in blowouts, maybe even a small Lindsey Hunter role.

I think that depends upon whom the C's are playing against and what the injury situation is by then.

But I think he's more likely to be called upon than Giddens, Shelden, and Walker.  I don't think TA will be on the team, and I think he could be as likely as Scal, or more, to be used situationally at the year's end.

I was big on us drafting Hudson at the time, and I think he can show a lot more. He really can be a microwave in stints because of his streaky shooting. I saw Douglas get by him once, and I know he can improve on that. Great lateral movement and gets his paws in the passing lanes very well.

And Jon, if it annoys you how people are ready to resurrect young guys after a few games, you better get ready to be annoyed for as long as Celticsblog is around. It's going to happen every year. Just get a template ready with blank spaces for where the player's name goes.

At some point some one will be in foul trouble or turn an ankle. It would be nice to count on one of the young guards for a few minutes here and there.

Hopefully Hudson, Giddens or Walker is ready to step up to it this year. If not Tony and Scal are gonna be the spot minutes men.

By the All Star break all Hudson has to do is prove he can get the ball over half court and run the basic sets with the second unit. If he does that he will easily be ahead of JR Giddens and Tony Allen, provided they are still with the team. He will be ahead of Walker and Scalabrine simply because he has a different skill set. I think Doc will prefer a guard that can play with minimal mistakes to a forward simply to protect the ball.  How many minutes he gets will be determined by foul situations, matchups and injuries.

Of course he still has to make the team before any of this is relevant. ;)

If a lineup of Hudson, House, Daniels is defensively capable to hold another team's second unit then i could see this kid making 2nd team all-rookie. I know this sounds crazy but the kid is a straight up scorer, plus he'll have the space on the floor to work.

woah hang on with the hyperbole there buddy.

guys who make all-rookie teams play a lot of minutes because they're on teams - usually bad teams - that have big enough holes in their rosters for them.  Hudson would do extremely well to earn 10 minutes a game on this roster, and I really doubt any rookie playing 10 mpg is going to make 2nd team all rookie.

Funny, I realized today that Lester Hudson has gotten more burn than JR Giddens did all last year (preseason) and this year combined after only 3 preseason games. What has he done to get Danny/Doc's attention? He has already been complimented by several of the veteran players without any prompting during inerviews. This kid is catching someones eye in practice and is earning some court time. He clearly is doing something right so far.

Too early to get overly excited, but still fun to watch. I wonder how much time he will see against the Cavaliers? That could be telling.....

Against the Cavs?  No time at all.  The Cavs game is going to be like a playoff game, both clubs very serious about making an early statement.  Barring major injuries to either team, we're going to see them in the playoffs.

Don't see the 4th preseason game having a playoff feel.

If he becomes a good depth guy ala Lindsey Hunter in Detroit, isn't that pretty good for a 2nd rounder and for this team?
