Brent to the Clips, Mardy Collins to the Cs, TA and a 2nd round pick to the Rockets.
What's the motivation for Houston? We've seen in the past few weeks exactly how little value TA has in the league, and any second-rounder we offer is almost certainly going to be in the mid- to high-50s (unless we horribly underperform expectations). If you substituted in "Tony Allen and Lester Hudson for Brent Barry," do you think Houston would bite?
I think Hudson has no value to an NBA team at the moment.
My point exactly. Our second round draft picks - whether for 2010 or the guy we just selected - aren't going to do ANYTHING to help facilitate a trade. Might as well propose a trade of Tony Allen and the rights to Ben Pepper.
If you're going to trade Tony Allen, it's going to have to be for:
1. A player who's an even bigger nutjob than TA
2. A player who's marginally better, but has a bad contract that extends through 2011 or 2012 (not expiring-for-expiring)
3. A player who has physically threatened both the coach AND the general manager
A second-round pick from is is not going to be enough of a sweetener to get ANYTHING of value. MAYBE if you toss in Giddens or Walker, although I doubt it. You could probably package TA and a highly protected 1st rounder, but would you really do that?
As to the whole "Morey likes guys who play D, TA can play D" argument.... the prototypical Daryl Morey player has got to be Shane Battier. Plays great D, but really just an uber-intelligent player who does does pretty much everything right.
Is there a player in the league who's less Battier-esque than Tony Allen? Z-Bo, maybe? Q-Rich? Who else? There aren't that many who play dumber; Tony Allen might not be starting for the "Anti-Battier All-Stars," but he's at least the first guy off the bench.
EDIT: Note, too, that two of the three teams mentioned are the Grizz and the Thunder, who could both take Barry aboard and give up essentially zero compensation (a heavily protected 2nd rounder). If Houston dumps Barry, it'll be because they are just shedding as much unnecessary salary as possible in a Yao-free, rebuiling/retooling (but still taxpaying) year. They're also expected to sign Pops Mensah-Bonsu to a (non-guaranteed) contract, which adds up to 17 players for 15 roster spots. Sum that all up - they aren't taking ANY players back.
