It looks like no buyers for Tony. Things might change later, but for the time being LETS GO TONY! The Great Charles Barkley said it best "You a knucklehead." So talent, yet so frustrating. But with all his downfalls, Tony is still a productive player. Not smart enough to be the 6th as he was projected last season, but a HOF 11th man. ;D

Why would anyone hate this guy?

I tried to be a fan, but it's to [dang] hard... He won't play 2 minutes of garbage time if he plays the way he played since he got injured.

He's a walking turnover, has the basketball smarts of Gerald Green, and is a major distraction, between his criminal trials, the team having to bring in extra security due to death threats, etc.

all those highlights were pre-big 3...tony allen adds nothing to this team...ZERO....they are better off making him inactive until they can move his expiring contract...i would rather see giddens play than him

I really wanna root for him too but he really does make dumb decisions on the court. Every time I say Tony Allen and dumb decision, I think of a big game in Detroit when we were up by 1 and seconds left, and he fell for Billups' infamous pumpfake and foul draw and we lost by 1. Tony hadn't played at all that game but Rivers put him in at that point for w/e reason...

Maybe he's just trying too hard with the expectation that you won't get big minutes anymore b/c of the big 3, but when you do get minutes, you better produce like you did as a starter pre-knee injury. I dunno, I am just feeling bad now for him.

GO TONY !!!
Can't stop, Rondo!

You are all a bunch of haters!  For all of you who think TA is a walking turnover, why don't you compare his turnovers per 48 min to the rest of the guards/small forwards in the NBA...ok he's not good at 4.2/48 but Rondo is right there at 3.8.  And Kobe, Pierce, Lebron and a lot of other great players have more To's per 48 than Tony Allen has.  He's really not that bad and he is super aggressive most of the time so naturally he is going to get more TO's than say a spot up shooter like Eddie House or someone of that nature.

TA played only 2 games last season where he logged 30 or more minutes and both games where the last 2 games of the regular season in which the team was trying to rush him back from an ankle injury so they could have more playoff depth...I take his playoff #'s and throw them out the window because he wasn't with it physically and emotionally and while I agree his off court issues are discouraging, I'm for one, am not going to make a judgement about someones personal life I know nothing about.

Games played in 08-09 with 30+ minutes:

2 games combined 70 minutes:

13-25 fg's     3-4 3pt    4-4 ft  4steal  2block  3turnover  7reb. 8assist 33pts

i'd love nothing more than to see him stay healthy for an entire season and prove that he still deserves a spot on this team in pre season. if he can get it back together, he could still be a great defender and half decent slasher off the bench for us. will it happen? the odds are against it...but as long as he's a boston celtic, i am pulling for this kid to experience a basketball breakthrough.

as of right now though, his biggest worth to this team, very much like scal, is his expiring contract.

Kobe, Pierce, and Lebron are all guys who are asked to handle the ball often.  They also, of course, bring much, much more to the table than Tony Allen.  Also, each of the three players you listed have *fewer* turnovers per minute than Tony.

Stats per 36 minutes:

Tony Allen -- 3.1 turnovers, 2.7 assists, 4.0 personal fouls
Lebron James -- 2.8 turnovers, 6.9 assists, 1.6 personal fouls
Paul Pierce -- 2.7 turnovers, 3.5 assists, 2.5 personal fouls
Kobe Bryant -- 2.6 turnovers, 4.9 assists, 2.3 personal fouls

I think the turnover argument is overdone.  His problem isn't really that he turns the ball over that much, it is that he loses concentration and makes mental mistakes WAY too much, and at crucial times.  Whether it is a dumb foul, a missed defensive assignment, running to the wrong spot on the floor on offense, or dribbling the ball off his foot, the mistakes always come.  And just when he has a good stretch, and you think he is turning it around, bam, here it comes again.

He is the ultimate tease, because he looks so good when he is on...but he is so terrible when he is off (which is more than half the time).

Stats will never tell the story with him, because he does put up numbers in bunches during his upswings, and you can't really show the mental mistakes statistically.  But he is simply way too erratic to be playing on a team with championship aspirations, and that is built on disciplined defense, and team offense.
