Sure.  I respect TA as a starting SG on a Lotto team.

I also respect that he is a bad fit as backup on a title contending team.

I see a game in the forcast where he scores 25 with 8 rebounds 7 assists 4 steals and 2 blocks and thats right only 2 turnovers.

I do too...when NBA 2K10 comes out

Can you do us all a favor, and send this post in an email to Larry Bird?  I think he needs to know how good Tony Allen is.
TP.  Perfect.

It sounds to me like you stopped watching the C's about 5 seconds before a bonehead decided to dunk after a play for no apparent reason 2 years ago.

At one point, I thought he was going to be the replacement to Paul Pierce. Seeing him play for Oklahoma St in the Big 12 made me believe he was going to be an NBA star. Alas, he is missing something. I happen to think that two serious knee injuries did something to his confidence. Oh well, I pray for his success.

When he's confident he can drive and finish. His tries on defense. Those are the positives.

BUT

Since being a rookie:

1. he still turns the ball over like few players i've ever watched

2. he hasn't improved his handle...even a little bit

3. aaaand still shoots horribly

SO, what does he practice in the off season? he's had like 4 or 5 off seasons to work on his weaknesses...and they're all still major weaknesses! so what does he do all summer??

If he's not practicing the right things, I don't want him on this team because he shows no commitment or desire to be a good player.

If he is practicing the right things but just doesn't improve, I don't want him because he just lacks talent.

Dave, seeing your creepy avatar pop up in each TA thread is definitely one of the consistent highlights of my experience on site.

tony is has one of the lowest basketball IQs in the NBA. he is a me first guy. if you dont believe...turn on the last 3 minutes of game 6 vs the bulls. he shot the celtics out of the game with 3 long and ill timed jumpers. i would rather see giddens or hudson get his minutes

As low as Tony's "basketball IQ" is, it's still way, way higher than Gerald Green's.

.....Sure there have been times when he wasn't running the perfect offense you had in your mind sets but that is what TA brings-steals and drives to the hoop like a Tim Wakefield Knuckleball, you don't know where hes going and neither does the defense ......

Couldn't help thinking while reading this "...and neither do his teammates!"

I really though that the membership of this blog had grown past the "Well, Tony isn't really the player we see. He's the player of that 20 game stretch in 2007!" crap.

Can we please just trade Tony for a new mascot or something and get rid of this guy?

Co-sign.

These threads keep popping up, like toadstools in a wet yard.

The collective IQ of this team went up today with the addition of Williams. It'll go up again when we finally get rid of Tony.

I am one of Tony's biggest fans and hope and think he will do well on another team, but the guy is an awful fit here and its time to move on. It's best for him and the team, he will go to a lottery/fringe playoff team and put up numbers like 15/5 with above average defense, about 2 1/2 TO's per game with a few lapses on defense. He is who he is, a guy who has tools on both sides of the ball but has too many mental lapses to be considered a really good defensive player and is too one dimensional on offense.

Those types of teams can deal with the bad because he will put up numbers and plays much better as a starter. However, this team can't afford the 1st or 2nd wing off the bench to make those mistakes because their job is to hit open shots and play smart on both sides of the ball, neither being TA's strengths to say the least.

While i just criticized him as a fit for this team, you can't knock TA for taking those shots. He got the ball with the shot clock running down each time, what else could he have done? House should of been in at the time because with Ray fouled out there was no spacing.

Also it was game 5, not 6 because it was in Boston.

Let's throw this sales pitch of Tony Allen at any GM willing
to listen to the idea of making their team better.

What would we get back?

Raef LaFrentz's Dirty underwear, a sweaty headband of Walter McCarty's, and a broken Run DMC record.

This one's easy. His pluses:

Solid teammate who doesn't create big waves as far as we can tell from the outside
Very good re-habber who works extremely hard to come back from his frequent injuries

His minuses:

Dumb as a bag of sweaty towels in the corner
REFUSES to work on any part of his game to be a better player
Me-first player
Completely undependable and unpredictable
Poor community citizen

There's a reason we can't GIVE him away to Indiana. Everyone but a few people on here know the guy is all hype and tease. 1 out of 10 games he looks pretty solid. The rest he kills you.

I'll show him some respect when he makes any effort at all on his minuses. Until then he can leave quickly and quietly.

it was game 6 in chicago. it was the triple overtime loss where boston blew a 9 point lead with under 3 to play. and tony took quick shots
