Tony Allen is the man.  Sorry for all the Celtics fans who haven't appreciated what he has brought to your team for the time that he has been here.  Sure there have been times when he wasn't running the perfect offense you had in your mind sets but that is what TA brings-steals and drives to the hoop like a Tim Wakefield Knuckleball, you don't know where hes going and neither does the defense but the key is he hustles more than most of the guys out there with his aggressivness and can keep the bench in the game by getting to the free throw line consistently.  There are not that many guards excluding Dwayne Wade that would give you the line that Tony Allen could if he can be healthy and play 30 minutes next year.  I see a game in the forcast where he scores 25 with 8 rebounds 7 assists 4 steals and 2 blocks and thats right only 2 turnovers.  He averages 1.44 to's and 1 steal in 19 minutes for his career. Oh yeah and he shoots almost 50% from the floor which is also rare for a guard he might shoot over 50% this year.  I bet Marquis Daniels can't say that.  If TA had never hurt his knee obviously he would be making a lot of money right now, and guess what hes back I hope to full strength by the season and hes a bargain.

This should be TA's best season ever- sorry for the rant

Before TA's knee injury I had high hopes for him and he was performing so well in a terrible team. Unfortunately you can't change what's happened and he lacks something. I like Tony, and I'd like to see him succeed, but not to the detriment of our team.

Tony, it's not that we hate you, I'm sure your a decent enough guy.

It's just that your a bad basketball player, on nearly every level i can think of, and thats not what were looking for right now.

I do appreciate you taking the time to reach out to the fans though.  8)

Yes he plays with hustle. Yes he has potential to be a good slasher. But nevertheless, he doesn't have a basketball brain, which is pretty darn important when you are playing...well...basketball. No one would argue that TA has potential, I think we all saw what he is capable of during that stretch of games before he blew out his knee in 07. His lack of basketball IQ is what limits him and will continue to limit him.

I agree that he could put together a line like that.  The problem is, it would be followed by 3 games where he scores 2 points on 1 for 8 shooting, with 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 4 turnovers, and about 10 missed defensive rotations.

Tony Allen is a tease, who can be a very good player when he is focussed.  But he has shown over and over again that he cannot do any of this with consistency.

Can you do us all a favor, and send this post in an email to Larry Bird?  I think he needs to know how good Tony Allen is.

That's pretty much how I see it, as well.  Good riddance.

Tell him Tony played all season trying to finish with his left hand, thats why his stats are bad

It might even be true.  He just kept getting confused about which hand was his left hand, and which one was his right hand, and that is why he seemed like he was always confused.

Couldn't help thinking while reading this "...and neither do his teammates!"

I really though that the membership of this blog had grown past the "Well, Tony isn't really the player we see. He's the player of that 20 game stretch in 2007!" crap.

Can we please just trade Tony for a new mascot or something and get rid of this guy?

I'm all for showing him respect and gratitude.  I'm one of the few people who knows he's a decent player, and thinks he might be valuable to our team in the future.  But to compare him to Dwayne Wade is ridiculous.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

TP.

That was my first thought when I read that rant.

I'd go back to the fact that despite having zero depth at the 2/3 last year, he still couldn't consistently get minutes on this team.  Doc often went with the likes of Marbury, House, and Scal at the 2 or 3 instead of him.

For a guy who has been in the league this long, that's unacceptable.

tony is has one of the lowest basketball IQs in the NBA. he is a me first guy. if you dont believe...turn on the last 3 minutes of game 6 vs the bulls. he shot the celtics out of the game with 3 long and ill timed jumpers. i would rather see giddens or hudson get his minutes
