If you flip a coin and it comes up heads ten times in a row, you had better look at the coin, beacause it's coming up heads the next time, too.

Dave Bing was a decent shooter over his career too, but that career is over.  Same with Marbury.  What Marbury did 5 years ago is irrelevant.

So past performance predicts future performance, except when it doesn't?  I'm having trouble reconciling this with your last analogy.

Marbury is a decent shooter over his career. He's not Ray Allen but he has been able to stick a jumper over his entire career.

I don't see a better alternative than someone already familiar with the team, plays, system, and coaching staff who can play. No we're not getting all-star Marbs but this is a guy who can definately be competent in a back-up role..

Somehow my response got omitted.  It was: who would you pursue, then, realistically?  We both liked Price, but he re-signed.  Doc won't play a rookie.  I'm out of ideas, and would genuinely be interested in who you'd be after, now.

So past coinflips do or don't predict future coinflips?  I'm having trouble integrating this with your last analogy.

He was crap last year, so the odds are that he will be crap again this year.

It's ridiculous to assume that he's somehow going to rediscover his game.  He isn't.

I'd much rather have a player like Kevin Ollie.  He's make the right basketball plays, play decent defense, won't turn the ball over and he'll make his free throws.  Plus he's 6-5 so he can cover sg's when paired with House. He'll also be a solid citizen in the locker room and in the community, and he won't cost you the LLE.

I'm hoping that this rumor was started by Marbury's agent in a desperate attempt to stir up some interest.  I hope everyone realizes that NO OTHER TEAM either in the NBA or in Europe has shown the slightest interest in Marbury.  That ought to tell you something right there.

That we're in a recession and no one is overpaying for anyone?
God bless and good night!

If This is True then good for him. About he came to his senses. I was thinking what if the Celts won the championship and Marbury was sitting @ home on his couch watching the cafettes fall lol and thinks to himself "[dang] that could've been me if they had just paid me $600,000 more. lol ::) ??? :-\ Well time will tell if this is true or not. Can't wait for preseason to start.

We can offer Marbury just as much and more without using the LLE, so this makes no sense...

At the end of the playoffs, Marbury was clearly much faster with the ball than he was earlier. His jumper wasn't there yet, but he could dribble and pass.

I would be fine with him coming back assuming in makes sense to Danny in the context of the remaining signings he is planning to fill out the roster.

Regarding "no other team ... has shown the slightest interest", we could probably say that for most of the guys who are still unsigned.

Oh man... I really really really hope Marbury comes back and that this rumor is true... There is no way he will be as he was last year... Not a player with his talent... just think of the bench we will have...

Marbury

House

Daniels

BBD (If he re-signs... Think he will.)

Wallace

Ik people have been talking that maybe Ford could be coming with Daniels... I doubt it but if that could happen I would take him over Marbury but I doubt it will... I really really really hope Marbury comes back and that this rumor is true though.

while i welcome marbury back and he wold fill a huge void at point..

Yeah, I'm sure there is a desperate need to fill the 30% FG void....Not to mention that frantic meaningless arm waving and jumping around on defense void.  Not to also mention the narcissism void.

Count me in the puking category.

We have 2 players on our roster who would be much better alternatives both shooting and defensively than Marbury....Not including Daniels.  You could count the better alternatives still looking for work on both hands and both feet.

Why didn't some team in Siberia sign him?

Pardon me while I throw up.  It this is true, it's a terrible move that Ainge will regret.

Honestly, how?  If Marbury really becomes that big of a problem, they can cut him.

And then what?  If you sign Marbury, it means you passed on all of the better alternatives that are out there.  By the time Marbury finishes stinking it up again, the good veteran backups will have signed elsewhere. It's called opportunity cost. If you do one thing, it precludes other moves.

Brick,
I usually think you're on point with most of what you say, but I can't agree with you on this one.  Who is honest to god a better alternative?  Bobby Jackson?  Anthony Carter?

I mean, I don't think Marbury is incredible, but he is better than any of the other back-up point guards out there.  In fact he would still be a starting level point guard for a lot of teams in the league.  He will hopefully exceed your expectations.

As DL said though, if he starts to become a nuisance or got into a self indulgent style of behavior I wouldn't want him anymore.  And at that point we could cut him loose and see who else is out there.

There's always going to be some scrap-heap PG's out there should Steph completely suck. At the deadline you just make another deal but I'd like to see Steph have a shot...

I'm not high on Marbury, but I would take him back
if we don't have a better option.

I'm not high on Marbury, but if there is no better option
through trade or LLE - bring him in for 1 full season.
