This is really interesting - as mediocre as Starbury was last year, he's bound to be much less rusty and better with the offense with a full season under his belt, and he's absolutely the most talented backup PG we could possibly get with the LLE.  Starbury + BBD coming back gives one of the best and most versatile benches in the league - talk about a turnaround there.

But I'll wait to see if this is reported in a more reputable source first.  And I still think Starbury + Sheed is just begging for the karmic smackdown of the decade.

IF they resign baby....

a bench of
marbury
eddie
daniels
baby
sheed....is pretty darn good...better than a lot of starting 5s
DBB said a similar thing about how deep their bench was. I saw a similar thing about Orlando's bench. I don't buy it for any of those three teams.

Marbury and Eddie are very undersized and we still haven't seen proof Marbury can still play at an NBA level. BBD is below average as a starting PF. Only Sheed and Daniels would start for a signifigant number of teams, and probably not good ones.

Pardon me while I throw up.  It this is true, it's a terrible move that Ainge will regret.

Honestly, how?  If Marbury really becomes that big of a problem, they can cut him.

And then what?  If you sign Marbury, it means you passed on all of the better alternatives that are out there.  By the time Marbury finishes stinking it up again, the good veteran backups will have signed elsewhere. It's called opportunity cost. If you do one thing, it precludes other moves.

Who do you see as the better alternatives at backup PG out there?  Lue?  Anthony Carter?  A sign and trade for someone?

No he won't.  That's a completely unwarranted assumption.  He's a year older, and he's not the kind of player who shoots 500 free throws a day. He's more likely to be worse, not better.

If you flip a coin and it comes up heads ten times in a row, you had better look at the coin, beacause it's coming up heads the next time, too.

Marbury will thrive in pick and rolls with KG (and Sheed for that matter). He didn't have that opportunity last yr. BBD wasn't KG.  Also you don't just forget how to shoot. Marbury's jumper will produce better results next year.

I think he could come back as a legit NBA guard this year. I don't think we should count on it though.

marbury is better than any of the scrap heap points out there..but i am still concerned that the daniels deal has been finished and the baby issue is slow...we need to get those things taken care of...get the bench in place and get ready for banner 18

What is NES247, and who are their sources?  They look like a fan blog, is that correct?

If so, I'll wait for Marc Spears.  It doesn't mean it isn't accurate -- blogs have broken news before -- but I'm still a little skeptical.

Yeah, this does not seem very reliable...and even the rumor is pretty wishy-washy.  They say he will be back for the LLE sometime in August...unless he gets a better offer.

For one thing, I guarantee you Danny will not sit around and wait for him like that.  If a better option comes around, they will get that money.

Very good point - last year when Marbury played we had 1.5 bigs that could shoot the J (Mikki counts half cause he barely played and was inconsistent).  If we sign BBD, we'll have 3.25 (Perk gets 1/4 cause he's shown he can make the shot, but not well enough that we want him doing it much), including Sheed who can pop out all the way to the 3 pt line.  If we keep Scal too that's a 3rd string guy who can do the same

I'm getting excited about next year's team, no matter what happens with Marbury and BBD we're gonna be so much more versatile on offense.

Marbury is a decent shooter over his career. He's not Ray Allen but he has been able to stick a jumper over his entire career.

I don't see a better alternative than someone already familiar with the team, plays, system, and coaching staff who can play. No we're not getting all-star Marbs but this is a guy who can definately be competent in a back-up role..

If we round out the bench with Baby and Marbury, we've got as good a shot at the title as anybody.

My only concern, and it's not a huge one, is that I'd like a bigger, more physical backup 3, but we can still win it all without that.

Dave Bing was a decent shooter over his career too, but that career is over.  Same with Marbury.  What Marbury did 5 years ago is irrelevant.

I would not mind if this happens.  Never thought I'd say that.

I'm lovin' it. I think Starbury will be ready to shine this season. . . this also means there is a sign and trade with Indy in place. I hope we will see something like Allen, Pruit, and Walker gone, that way we can keep scals. I think at this point Scals is pretty important insurance for some spot minutes at the 3 and the 4. If we resign baby we will get banner #18!
