I don't believe he's going to be backup pg. I think Danny will sign someone else.
I think we'll see the line up of:
1 House
2/3 Ray & Daniels or Paul & Daniels
4/5 insert Sheed and other backup bigs
Daniels can handle the ball and guard either the 2 or 3. House will play shooting guard and defend the 1. It'll sometimes result in cross matching.
Yes. Something like that is much more likely. On most night and certainly in the playoffs, we're not going to need a backup 1, 2, and 3. More than likely, Daniel and House will handle that, and that's it. Might Bill Walker or Tony Allen or whoever is still here when the season starts see 5-10 mpg? Sure, but with Rondo averaging 35-40 mpg and Pierce and Allen seeing 32-36 (though probably closer to 35-40 come playoff time), there's only 32-45 mpg to cover backing up the 1-3 spots. Daniels and House should be able to cover that pretty much by themselves.
Furthermore, while Daniels may handle the ball when Rondo is out (at least at times), it doesn't mean Ainge is going after another SF. All it means is that Eddie will be playing the defensive 1 and the offensive 2 and Daniels will be playing the defensive 2 (or 3) and the offensive 1.
