At what point will it look like he will just play for the qualifying offer? Teams with capspace/exceptions/interested in Glen are drying up. This could be pretty good news for us. Nothing guarantees a guy will be a good soldier and stay in good shape like a contract year, and a guy who feels like he was dissed by every team in the league.
I think he'd probably try to work out a deal with the Celtics before taking the qualifying offer. Who knows though, I didn't think Ben Gordon would risk playing for the QO either.

Now what would our motivation be to sign him to the qualifying offer? Next year we would have the same 4th big discussion again... unless Powe comes back healthy and isn't signed by another team. But I think I want a multi-year resolution to that question.

We've tendered him the QO, that is why he is a restricted FA. If he wants to play for it, he just needs to sign it.

I know, but we could try to prevent it and give him a contract offer/wait until he signs somewhere else. I don't think we are interested in the 4th big discussion next year again.

Prevent it? If he doesn't take our offer why would we be upset if he plays for the QO. That would be a good deal for the C's.

I'd hope we'd attempt to work out a muli-year contract, but if BBD and his agent don't like our offer so be it.

so spears says boston offered baby, giddens and gabe for maxiell and a first round ick but were rejected.

i am guessing this why the daniels deal is being held up. and i am guessing that tony and walker are involved in that s and t

I wonder why it was "quickly" turned down.  The first round pick?  I'm starting to like the idea of Maxiell as the backup 4.  He's strong like BBD but can also block shots.  I'm just picturing someone driving the lane on this team and running into Perk and Maxiell.  That would have to be an intimidating duo.

Baby is good at hitting jumpers and might put up more point than Maxiell when given more minutes, but I think Max might actually be a better fit on this team.  BBD might have put up 15pts a game as a starter, but only getting 5.6 boards when you're nearly 300lbs?  That's not enough.

I'd love to see Maxiell here.  I don't see Danny snagging a first rounder though.  Maybe a second rounder.

Clearly (if Detroit's interest in BBD is true), Joe Dumars thinks BBD is a better player than Maxiel (logic dictates that since they are similar players that Joe wouldn't pursue BBD if he thought otherwise) -- however, the comparison is irrelevant.   If either one of them is getting starter's minutes next year, that spells very bad news for the Celtics.  In a reserve role -- likely 10-15 minutes a game next year (tops) --I don't see a big difference.  With that said, if you're going to pay Maxiel 5 million a year for the next 4 years (current salary), then why not just pay BBD (certainly will be less than that) as he is probably the player with better upside.

Three quick notes:

1) Baby is more than two years younger than Maxiell, so he is more likely to improve - especially the jumper.

2) Davis to Dallas makes a ton of sense, and they can offer MLE dollars to make it happen.

3) Regarding the fourth big next year if we move Baby for Kwame - we will have the chance to resign Brown at about $3M per season (Very reasonable) and the MLE to work with, so it should not be as much of an issue.
