I'm new to these boards so this may be a stupid question:

Before doing the deal, why wasn't everything decided up-front?

ESPN.com update:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4337981

Still don't understand why it wasn't worked out up front?

Now I even think Diener could very well be included. They have Ford and Watson now as his backup, plus they would get Pruitt and still have Tinsley. So maybe TA/Pruitt/Walker for Daniels/Diener?

That would solve our backup PG question. Diener is a great outside shooter with high BB IQ.

Has anyone thought that daniels starting at 5 million isn't that desirable longterm? Hope the sign and trade falls through

Offer him the LLE and be done with it.  Why pay him more if you dont have to unless there is some other team looking to acquire him who is offering him more money.  Why bid against yourself Danny?

I think Travis Deiner is a Dan Dickau clone

Doing a S&T actually saves the Cs money this year (if they sign Daniels to the LLE, then they essentially pay the $2M in salary, plus another $2M in luxury tax).

That said, I much prefer the LLE option for Daniels.
Celtics fan for life.

2 Mil is chump change.  If Wyc and the boys are worried about $2M then we have bigger problems!

Its a little unusual. Basically Daniels is forcing a time constraint on a deal with IND and BOS - to see if all 3 parties can benefit. He's telling the Pacers that he's going to Boston 1 way or another. Essentially saying 'Lets try to make this profitable for all sides. But lets get it done soon, otherwise I'll just go over there for the LLE.'

Hell I would pass on Daniels and just do a 3 team trade with Houston and Indy.

Boston gets swingman Battier

Indy gets Allen and Scal expring contracts

Houston gets Foster a center to fill in for Yao for a year before they get Bosh.

why don't people think that Big Baby could be involved in this sign and trade attempt?  In part of a slightly bigger deal?

1. we rid ourselves of tony allen
2. gabe wasn't going to be resigned anyway...no loss
3. walker has been surpassed by giddens and was not the answer at wing
4. WE GET TO KEEP SCAL...a guy who has a bigger expiring and a guy who actually is an impact on the floor. we will get something out of this
5. boston still has their LLE to get a decent point or another big off the bench
6. baby isn't involved so they can go a resign him

this is the perfect scenerio for the Cs

I thin k there is more to this trade! I think the Celts will be receiving two players in return. Scal and TA would be 30 mil coming off their books. I don't see Daniels alone being worth the expiring contract incentive alone!
L.A. Clippers

i dont think scal and tony are in the deal together...it is one or the other with gabe and walker IMO..most likely tony.

Perfect scenario is getting Battier instead of Daniels!  I guess Daniels is a nice consolation prize.
