BBD can be a future all star. Why not? He is only going on his 3rd year and really played well at the end of last season, especially the buzzer beater push the kid out of the way play in Orlando
why not?
1. he is too short to play under the basket, which is often a problem if you are an all star pf. he has trouble putting the ball in the basket with taller players around. not a normal trait of all star pfs.
2. he is too slow to consistently beat guys off the dribble, which, can a problem given #1.
3. he defense is not bad, but not stellar. he has neither the height nor speed to keep up with real all stars.
4. once the big 3 are gone and defenses focus on bbd, his offensive game will drop off significantly. bbd benefits quite a bit from being the 3rd to 4th option on offense since most defenses dont double team him most of the time. all stars such as KG still put up big numbers even when double teamed.
5. rebounding is NOT his strength, though it is for many all star pfs. see points 1 and 2 above. league average for rebounding was 4.8 and bbd averaged only 4 per game. he had exactly 4 games with 10 or more rebounds, two required over 40 minutes to achieve that. 4 games with 10+ is ok, but not all star pf numbers.
6. he averaged .3 blocks a game. for a pf, that is not an all star average for blocks....but it is the same average as scal.
i like davis. i like davis on the celtics. but as one poster wrote - he is chunky, undersized pf.
