If the C's sign Grant Hill then no.  I think you use Hill as a point forward through Feb and see how it pans out. I think this is a great option b/c it allows the team to use Eddie as an off guard w/o giving up the size.

If it doesn't work out you reevaluate at the break and try to trade the expiring contracts, hope for a buyout or use your 3rd string guy (Pruitt/Hudson).

I agree.  I think you can hold off for a while and still be OK.  I like the idea of Hill at the Point Forward for a while (worked for Hedo/ORL).  We have some chips to move at the deadline, and let's remember, the last two season we signed guys at the deadline to contribute without moving anyone.  This year, we have even more options.  No need to rush into something pre-season unless a good situation presents itself.

Who's our number two center then? We won't use a 3 big rotation in the regular season.

Sheed is the number two Center.  Then the fourth big will be BBD (if he isn't signed elsewhere), someone for the vet min or the LLE or Danny's man-crush Mr. Swift.

Pretty much exactly what I was thinking.

I'd rather not. I prefer Eddie House at the point.

If Doc insists on playing Eddie off the ball, then the point guard market is very weak and Marbury is a risky but solid option.

Haven't read this whole thread, but I would take him back at slightly less than we offered simply out of principle.  I wouldn't offer him the same deal just because he already turned it down, which is a slap in the face to a team that gave him a great chance to restart his career.

I think he can still play a little team D, can still score a little (which I think will be better this year now that he's been working out and supposedly has some confidence back), and he knows the systems/players.  He also handled the ball well toward the end and made some good decision and did well play making.

It solves the problem of a backup PG, and it would be nice to have someone the players and coaches like and that knows the system and his role.  I wouldn't let him take the old deal though, just because he turned it down.

It was the vet min.

Marbury will be unhappy coming for that contract after he already said it was to little.  Just because he would stick his tail between his legs and come back, doesn't mean he will be the same happy, non-issue creator.

There is just to much of a chance the Celtics get Starbury from the NY offcourt.
This is a good point. Once you publicly reject something, the tendency is to get entrenched in your position. I'm not sure Marbury would feel the same if he had to return humbled.

Then again, he really didn't say much negative apart from believing he can get more elsewhere.

There are only a few PGs in the NBDL who wouldn't have been more productive and shot better than Marbury did last year....Let alone the out of position backup PG we already had...or even Pruitt.

I hope the lakers or cavs pick him up.  That would be much more helpful to us.

If we can get Grant Hill in the fold, I think this alleviates much of the need to get a classic backup PG in the fold.  Someone like Lue (ugh) will be fine, they won't see the court very much at all.  Hill initiates the offense, House plays off the ball.  More like the Orlando model, how they were running the offense through Turk.  Ideally, though, we'd have someone else out there to help on the defensive side, someone like a Ime Udoka or Quinton Ross to give some better defense on the wings and hit an open shot or two.

He gave good effort on defense, the results weren't there. In particular he often was matched up with Vince Carter, Walter Hermann, and other big 2s. During those stretches we got toasted on the defensive end.

His effort was almost Paytonesque (When Payton played for us).  A lot of meaningless arm waving, jumping around, and posturing.  I think Marbury actually tried but the last time he played defense probably was probably in grade school.

I agree with this for most of the time he was here last year, however, in the playoffs, he was playing some legitimate defense.  In fact, for much of the playoffs, he was actually playing better defense than Rondo.

Honestly, I am not the least bit worried about Marbury's defense.  90% of the PGs in the league suck at keeping their men in front of them, and Marbury is probably middle of the road with that group.

What I am worried about is whether his shot has completely left him, or if he can get it back.  If he can get back his deadly midrange shot, then he can be a killer backup PG on this team.  If not, he becomes what he was for most of the playoffs...a less athletic Rondo, who does not have the quickness anymore to get to the basket when teams sag way off him.

I really believe he can get it back.  There are extenuating circumstances, btw.  He's only 32 and near the end of his prime, but still in his prime nonetheless.  It's not like he's 37.

I'd take him back in a heartbeat for the vet min to play backup PG, but I feel like having Sheed and Marbury on the same team is just begging for trouble, or at least a major karmic smackdown.

Co-Sign.

But there were no problems what so ever with Starbury last year. Sheed will be tough to calm down, but i like his antics. It will be tough to control so many personalities, but i think its doable on a successful team.

If we get Steph back on a vet min i would be very happy. he is much better than Ty Lue

Don't really want him- he was truly awful last year.
But for some reason, It wouldn't really bother me if he came back. The talent was there at one time, so it's possible that he could be at least adequate.
Still, it just doesn't seem right for Marbury to be in green.
