just putting this in a post from the frontpage:

http://celticsgreen.blogspot.com/2009/07/things-are-heating-up.html

the more i read about this, the less sense it makes. If Leon is willing to sign a one year deal for short money, there is absolutely no reason to not do it.

You're going to have to sign someone for the roster spot and pay them, so money clearly is not a substantive reason for not re-singing him.

He would sign for only one season, so long term flexibility is not a reason to not sign him.

and playing for short money, if it turns out that he can't play this season, you can always release him during the season much like they did with Sam Cassell last season to free up a spot for Marbury. So wasting a roster spot as reason to not sign him is clearly not substantive.

I agree with the writer in the article that this is a bad Karma move. Leon came back and played hurt for the team and got injured while doing so. Now, he is working hard to come back this season and hard work has been his trademark in his time in the league.

I hope we keep this alive and keep getting signatures for the petition:

I think that if the Celtics can't offer him a spot untill he is recoverd then CSNNE should hire Leon for the Celtics Now show with Mike Holley and Donny Marshell while he is rehabing.

i don't know if i agree with this, reminds me of when Mikey Adams kept showing up at WEEI until they gave him the evening slot. a bit pathetic.

So in other words, you want the Celtics to pay Leon for the very year that he is unable to play. So Leon wants to get paid for rehabbing? :-\

To be fair to the OP for rehabbing and hopefully his play in the last two months of the season.

I'll trust the opinion of the guy who talked directly with the doctor that assessed Leon's injury situation.

The Celtics have paid Tony Allen for more than a year for rehabbing with all his injuries.  He has been on the injured list more than he has played for his entire time here.

One year contract at the minimum, with a TEAM option for a second year, also at the minimum.  He gets paid while he rehabs, hopefully he's back in time to help in the playoffs, and if he returns and is healthy, we've got him on the cheap for a second season (and if not, we've got no further obligation).  If he's healthy, Leon's more of a $3M - $4M/year player, not a minimum-salary guy.  Having a team option on the second year alleviates the risk that he rehabs, plays well but only for a month or two, then walks for a bigger contract.  The Celtics take the risk of paying him for nothing, Leon takes the risk of being underpaid in '10- '11.

I don't think this has anything to do with Leon's situation.

Tony had already rehabbed from his knee injury when he was resigned to his current two year deal.

Would Leon sign a deal like that? His comments never indicated he'd take a two year minimum deal.

I don't think his agent would let him sign such a deal.

Hell, I'd give Leon just a straight one-year deal, but if Danny's concerned about his injury, what I'm proposing mitigates some of that.  At least offer something like that.  Leon *may* not get any offers better than that, given his injury history.
