I'm still in the keep Rondo camp. In 2010 he will be a restricted free agent, and the Celtics can match any offer.

In the summer of 2010, their are a ton of true max players ahead of him on teams' wish lists. I really doubt anyone is going to throw 15+ million per year at him.

I disagree completely.  Their are to many teams saving up money for those MAX players.  Once they are all signed up their will be teams out their with money to spend on whats left over.

So then what do we do with Ray Allen?

Because Gay is a waste coming off the bench.

He is?

I guess Manu is a waste

Terry is a waste

Mchale was a waste for a couple of years.

issue is this: rondo has been hammered now by ainge today and rumored that doc has said he is uncoachable...if there is nothing to this then why all the public comments? is it to humble him? every national site is saying there are major issues behind the scenes with rondo....if he stays then there are fences to be mended

I hope we trade with Memphis

I'll take Conley Jr. and Rudy Gay for Rondo. If we get an additional 1st round pick, that would be icing on top.

Gay solves our big wing off the bench and could move into the starting lineup if/when Ray is no longer a C.

Is Conley Jr. as good as Rondo? No, but he is fundamentally sound, is very coachable, and possesses many talents Rondo doesn't have, like a jump shot and good FT shooting.

Gay has all-star ability and can score off the bench, he can also give Paul some nights off.

I really like our bench with House, Gay, BBD and Leon. Hopefully throw in Dice and our second unit is outstanding and offsets the loss of Rondo.

We can devote the MLE to a Big, like Birdman, Dice, or Sheed, sign a PG with the LLE or simply resign Starbury.

It appears that it is becoming more and more obvious that the Celtics Brass will not extend Rondo and he will be difficult to resign next year.

Lets do this deal while he has value and can be traded.

I usually wouldn't do this, but I'd go to bat for Scal and say can we make that Tony Allen, Rondo and Giddens for Rudy G and Conley?
Can't stop, Rondo!

I don't think Memphis wants to do that deal.

You'll be surprised how easily fences can be mended by a more consistent jumper and consistency of effort.

Which, I suspect, are management's goals behind this entire discussion.

Can't trust these "reports" at this point.

From what I've heard, Chris Wallace is super nervous to pull the trigger on any deal that doesn't seem overwhelmingly in favor of Memphis because of all the heat he's taken for the awful Pau Gasol trade he made last year.

Although there are people on both sides claiming this trade is in their favor (Memphis fans don't like it, Boston fans don't like it), I think it's fair to say it's not obviously overwhelmingly in favor of either side.  Hence, I doubt Wallace would agree to it.

I meant it's my impression that the majority of fans on either side don't like it.

Of course there are people on both that think it's a good trade.

It could be possible that the C's are checking out Rondo's value around the league, so that they can use that info in contract negotiations.

I partly agree with this - I think Danny is willing to move Rondo if another team overvalues him after the big playoff run. DA's been clear that there are no sacred cows but Pierce and KG.  But, I think the Plan B is to humble and motivate him a bit - seeing what kind of offers other teams were turning down for him could make him focus a lot more in his contract year.

Either way, we're gonna find out a lot about Rondo over the next season.  Whether it's in a C's jersey seems more up in the air every day though.
