financially rondo and scal for gay and conley doesn't work. can someone explain what i'm missing?

I thought it also included Giddens, in which case it would work.

Ya as good as gay is i don't think Conley can run this team.  If we get back the number two I wouldn't mind

Conley is kind of the exact opposite PG as Rondo: grounded, mature beyond his years, low-risk, no ego.

You forgot limited and not as effective.

If this trade were to happen maybe Gay's presence here is more of a precursor to a trade of Paul Pierce and not one of Ray Allen. Think about it. Pierce goes to Houston for Tracey McGrady. The Celtics sign Jason Kidd and Joe Smith to one year deals.

Kidd/Conley/Pruitt
Ray/House/Tony
Gay/McGrady/Walker
KG/Smith/Leon
Perk/Baby

Now Kidd, Pruitt, Ray, Tony, House, McGrady, Walker and Smith all expire at the end of the year. That leaves Conley, Gay, KG, Leon, Perk and Baby. Let's say, guesstimating here that's $28 million. The C's could then have plenty of room for a max contract guy like D Wade and then some left over for an MLE sized contract guy. Then could extend on Gay and Perk and enter 2010-2011 with this core:

Conley
Wade
Gay
KG/Leon
Perk/Baby

I agree the Gay/PP same position thing is a little confusing with this deal, but I don't buy the trade PP / keep Ray thing.

You lost me after that.

I agree.  Pierce is going nowhere.

I'll take Conley and Gay for Rondo. Is Conley as good as Rondo? No, he is not, but its still a great trade for the C's. Gay solves our problem of a talented wing off the bench and can be as good as he wants to be, even a future all-star.

Conley is a high character guy and is VERY fundamentally sound. He has a jump shot and can shoot FT's much better than Rondo. Plus, he will be resignable, which it appears, Rondo will be difficult to re-sign.

We can spend the full MLE on big and LLE on a PG or simply re-sign Starbury.

I know many are Rondo fans, and I love the kid's game, but we have to look long-term as well as short term. Maybe Doc doesn't feel like he can continue to fight with Rondo and try to embellish umbutu at the same time. If Danny dosn't feel like we can resign Rondo, then lets get value now and not get left holding the bag. If its a 3-way and we get a draft pick too, then all the better. Draft Ty Lawson or the kid from VCU or a young PF or Wing like Danny Green.

We can win a Championship without Rondo.

So then what do we do with Ray Allen?

Because Gay is a waste coming off the bench.

Don't worry, the trade won't happen without a plan for ray. Maybe baron davis, but his contract is horrid. Nothing comes to mind, maybe we can package conley and ray for staudemire, but to me thats just not enough.

exactly we can win without rondo. If we have Rudy off the bench with house and marbury then we would have a nasty second unit. A lot of scoring in BBD if he re-signs, Eddie, Marbury, Rudy, and the one of the starting 5 are you kidding? We would have the best bench in the league.

I'm still in the keep Rondo camp. In 2010 he will be a restricted free agent, and the Celtics can match any offer.

In the summer of 2010, their are a ton of true max players ahead of him on teams' wish lists. I really doubt anyone is going to throw 15+ million per year at him.

I'd like to keep Ray. Gay is not a waste coming off the bench THIS YEAR. After Ray's contract is up or at the trade deadline, then he could move into the starting lineup, but only if and when Ray is not longer a C.

I hope we do get a draft pick to add a young wing. While there are no impact guys in the mid-first, there are plenty of developmental guys better than Giddens.

Maybe we could even draft an Earl Clark from Louisville.

It could be possible that the C's are checking out Rondo's value around the league, so that they can use that info in contract negotiations.
