just taking a step back for a second. the trade rumors coming out of PHO these days make me even more worried about Kerr.

I mean, what is the plan down there? Is Big Al even right for their system or are they again gonna try to go back to a Spurs-style game?

If that's the case, Nash pretty much has to go....that franchise is in a real identity crisis.

Well they're trying to unload Amare. I think the #6 and an expiring contract would of gotten the deal done. If Minny wants to throw in Al Jefferson, what are you gonna say no? Al Jefferson can play center on a running team. Shaq's a goner too. Phoenix will have saved money and rebuilt on the fly.
Why would they trade Amare for just an expiring contract? They have plenty of trade options between Shaq and Amare. I don't see Phx doing panic moves and Pau Gasol type trades.

Amare has been the better player so far. I'm not sure how Al can play with Shaq on offense. Nash will never be able to do his normal running in and out of the lane. Shaq has to be traded after that move.

I already said that Shaq would be moved and Al would play center. And the #6 pick makes it not just an expiring contract. The #6 pick is pretty valuable. Al Jefferson and the #6 pick is more than Minny got for KG.
We all know that they want to move Shaq. But they still need a taker.

here's the deal:

BOS gets: Big Al, #14

PHO gets: Ray, Rondo and #6

MIN gets: Amare

You forgot the most important part: LA gets the title.

I'm as big a Big Al fan as anyone else but trading our starting backcourt for (injured) frontcourt depth isn't going to fly.

Really? I think we would destroy LA with a big man rotation of Perk, Big Al and KG.

bring in Grant and Andre Miller as FAs, we'd make them look silly.

First of all, you can't count on AL being at full strength right when he comes back from an injury. Secondly, you mean Grant Hill, right? That leaves us with a pg and 2 sf, so we aren't going to have much of any perimeter defense to speak of. I'm just not a big fan of these "weaken the starting unit to strengthen the bench" deals, or of the "let's give up some defense to add some offensive firepower" deals.

If this rumor is true, Phoenix could finally make a good deal, so I say just do it ! With Al the Suns would improve a lot.

I'm probably the biggest Rajon Rondo fan on the face of this planet... but I actually want this trade to go down.

Amare ton Minn for Jefferson and #6

Ray and Rondo to PHO for Jefferson, Barbosa, and #6

We would need sign a vet PG and a backup SG with the MLE

Then draft Jonny Flynn with the #6

Vet PG/Flynn
Barbosa/Vet SG
Pierce/Scal/Walker
KG/Big AL/Leon
Perk/Big AL/BBD

If we get Big Al, there is no need or room for Powe.
"If somebody would have told you when he was playing with the Knicks that Nate Robinson was going to change a big time game and he was going to do it mostly because of his defense, somebody would have got slapped."  Mark Jackson

I think a healthy Powe and healthy Al J would be okay - Powe would just be a reserve, but at the min he's a talented reserve. But there is no good that can come from having two ACL tears at the same time playing the same position.

If we did do a three-way deal, I agree with Roy wanting to get back Nash with Al instead of Barbosa. Phoenix has killed Barbosa's growth & progress because they never made him find a real position, so I definitely wouldn't want him to be my starting PG when he is a shoot 1st Guard. Plus I dont want him as a undersized non defensive 2! I live in Phoenix so I watch every Suns game after the Celtics play & Nash still has skills to be an elite PG & Barbosa's game is all freelance pretty much as the Suns let him run wild when he checks in to keep him happy. Nash would be awesome in Boston playing with smart offensive players like KG & Pierce. I thinks he makes KG & Pierce 3pts. per game better scorers easily because Nash offense has to still be accounted for because he shoots so well as Roy alluded to.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
(Also heard Ced. Maxwell say that Barbosa could handle the point)

He also said Dirk was better than Larry.  Sometimes, Max says some odd things.

Can't let this pass without adding in "Big Baby's going to get $10M a year this summer".

That was classic. I just don't get why public figures have no idea how contract situations/salary caps work, but we do (thanks to Roy and others).

Also, I believe I heard on Mohegan Sports tonight (not by Max) that we should just keep Ray and let his contract run out and use his money to sign a big FA next year- it just made me cringe...
