As much as i like both players, the team needs and will need length in the future for those positions. In order to compete with the top tier teams like the Lakers,Cavs,Hawks, etc.we need players taller than 6'7"or so.Playing aganist scrub teams like the today's Griz,Thunder,Minny(minus Big Al),we look good in the paint, but when you are looking to go deep into the playoff yr.after yr.,athletic bigs are a requirement for the future.

I think the Miami Heat who Powe lit up as well would argue that they weren't exactly chicken-feed. Powe can score on bigger players and has continued to prove that. Perk can also score on bigger guys and has done so every time we give him the chance, which is not enough. I think our biggest weakness at this point is the backup SF spot. We can win a championship with the bigs we have out there. We just have no one to guard the Lebron's of the league once PP is out.

I was looking at the future mainly but at the present i do not feel it can be done on a consistent basis aganist top tier teams. The only player on the Heat i feel worth qualifying as a top tier player is D.Wade.The team without Wade would be a bottom feeder.

yaaa...I'd go with you on that one if Powe hadn't just done the same thing to Cleveland, Orlando, and Miami before Memphis - he's shown he can do it against taller players, as long as he can be effective against PF's and select centers, he's perfectly fine...there have been a decent amount of sub-6'9" PFs who have had success - considering Powe's per-minute production and effeciency with his moves i'm inclined to believe he's another one...

Im not suggesting dump Powe but i would like to see some length added to the roster in the future.I would like to see a few players with length with better ability than Mikki Moore(no knock on Mikki)but for the future.Whose 6'9"on our roster? BBD is listed at 6'9"but i doubt he is that tall.

6 time all-star Jermaine O'neal would like to disagree.

He's lost too much to injury. He never was an elite offensive player, just good. But defensively he was a beast. Sadly his knee troubles have robbed him of a lot of his lift. He's lost a lot of his shot blocking and rebounding as a result.

Plus his offensive efficiency has fallen as he doesn't get the same number of put backs and dunks.

you are correct,O'Neal was never a great player,a good player at best. This started out as needing to add a few Bigs taller than Powe,BBD for the future, not meaning that we needed to rid either. It turned into a who is the best, worst teams or players on other teams.I still stick to my original post,we need some athletic Bigs for the future.tp

Right back at you. Athletic bigs would be nice for the future certainly. But this coming off season, however it turns out in the playoffs, has two needs in my mind.

1. A veteran center (this assumes we keep BBD or Power, maybe both)
2. A veteran PG

We might need a 3 man as well depending on how Tony Allen comes back from injury.

The good news for next year is we have a lot of expiring contracts, so we have a lot more freedom to make a trade if there is a deal to improve our team.

Very true, however I guarantee you his agent is in his ear that Powe really deserves to be another teams starting power forward.

Career wise I think it would be best if he would back KG up for a couple more years and then he can replace him as KG retires. I just don't think that they will want to wait that long though.

I'm a die hard Powe fan, but I don't think Leon starting would be a wise choice on his end. He has amazing talent and he should be a starter, but the only blemish is his past knee injuries. Idk if he could average 35+ min a game without hurting it again, if he didn't have that problem I would scratch and claw for him to be a starter for us in the next few years.
True Celtic = Leon Powe

Bring back the show!!!!

If the Celtics don't want to expand Powe's role beyond being KG's backup, then I have to believe Powe will be gone after this year. I don't think 16 minutes a game is going to help Powe's career, even if he is backing up a HOFer like KG.
