Don't speak too soon.

It's past 3 - how is it too soon?  I know buyouts can happen, but is there a way for them to still make a trade?

Im pretty sure if teams are still discussing and working out a trade they can request more time from the league

If the Celtics get Marbury and Joe Smith (which is looking more and more lit it will happen) Cleveland is not winning a championship. Same for LA

Why is it looking more likely? Ive heard nothing about either being bought out, Marbury is a cancer, and Joe smith is, well Joe smith

Randy Moss was a cancer, Corey Dillon was a Cancer , Dennis Rodman was a cancer

When these guys have shots at winning a title they aren't cancers. Their talent shines through. Marbury can come here help the celtics win a championship and earn himself another decent sized contract. Joe Smith is basically a younger PJ Brwon

Don't be such a downer man, think positive!!

The celtics arent the patriots, football isnt basketball and randy moss and corey dillon are not stephon marbury

Did LA move Chris Mimn?

They only got a 2nd round pick I think . Nothing that will help them against the Celtics

Still it is likely we would have heard something by now.
Absolutely

And if Cleveland didn't make a trade it's an idiotic non-move on Danny Ferry's part.

I'm gobsmacked that WallyWorld is still a Cav.  I mean, even short of getting Shaq, how do you not turn Wally into someone like Richard Jefferson or Vince Carter?

They do know that LeBron can leave next year, right?  Did that memo get passed around the office?

You know the deadline deals don't trickle in until later in the afternoon.

  • TRANSFORMATION INTO CHAMPION COMPLETE!!!
If there is no forthcoming deal, the Cavs messed up. Be it Amare, Richard Jefferson, Shaq or whoever, they are worse off having kept Wally. I was wondering if they were figuring if it ain't broke, don't fix it, but this was a mistake with the names that were out there.

Did LA move Chris Mimn?

Yeah, they moved him for Memphis and didn't get Rudy Gay or OJ Mayo back, only a draft pick!!! I'm stunned!!  :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

I agree this is a dangerous jinx from the OP.

I dont think that we are going to hear about clev doing anything. It would be too big of story for it not to be leaked.
Back to wanting Joe fired.

If Wally starts to go into a shooting slump, or doesn't perform in the playoffs, he and Danny Ferry are gonna get run out of town.

But let's hold off on the idea that getting Joe Smith and Marbury would guarantee us the title.  They would both be good additions, but they would both see a limited amount of playing time.  And while the Cavs didn't do anything to improve their team, they're still a pretty [dang] good team and definitely still a title contender.

think bron bron is a knick in '10, surprised the knicks weren't more aggressive in dumping salary.

the other thing about CLE not dealing Wally is that this was their last chance to bring in a big player before LeBron's contract situation comes up....

So if they don't win this year they have very limited options to make the team more attractive to LeBron in order to keep him in CLE....

I'm shocked that they didn't land one of the big names out there....

Yeah, Ferry really mismanaged this in my view.  They could have turned Wally and Snow into something far more productive.

They're very good as is, but it was crazy not to improve, imo.  Man, if they don't win it all this year, people (and especially Bron) will be wondering, what if the front office had stepped up to the plate.

Danny Ferry blew it.  How do you not get a deal done for Wally?

This is the best buyers market of all time, and Cleveland is the only team in the L right now that will benefit financailly from adding big $ players.  Letting Wally walk will lead to LBJ walking which will lead to an empty Q every night.

Absolutely horrible for the city of Cleveland and their fans.

My guess is Ferry refused to add any sweeteners (Hickson, Varejao, 1st rd picks, etc) to the proposals and wanted teams to basically just take the expiring deal for a star.  Financially that might make sense, but most GMs know trading a star solely for an expiring contract isn't going to make the fanbase happy at all.

Definitely a bad move on his part, but I'm thrilled he didn't come through.  That's what you get for trusting a Dukie.

the other side of the coin is that maybe a big name would have disrupted their chemistry....who knows?

they are pretty tough as is...
