I'm not a huge fan of Rondo...but I wouldn't trade him for a while. Ever since shipping out Joe Johnson and Chauncey back in the day, i've been hesitant to give up on young guys so early unless they were so abysmal it's not even funny. (I wouldn't even ship POB out yet)

"Take this down," said O'Neal. "My name is Shaquille O'Neal and Paul Pierce is the (expletive) truth. Quote me on that and don't take nothing out. I knew he could play, but I didn't know he could play like this. Paul Pierce is the truth."

As a two way player, Rondo is a Top Five pointguard in the league.

Paul, D. Williams, Billups... Rondo.

Parker, Ford, Harris, Iverson, Nelson, Mo Williams and Bibby all score more, but none of them defend and most of them do not make thier teamates better (read: assists).

Calderon, Kidd and Nash are probably better facilitators, but they are really terrible defenders.

Rose and Westbrook are interesting but unproven, play for bad teams and considered untouchable by their teams.

Arenas and Davis are both really good, really expensive and really injury prone.

steve is a pretty solid poster; he's been around for awhile.  I'm sure he's not a troll, so I'd be curious to hear him respond to some of the arguments.

I am glad everyone seems to agree here...

Rondo is one of the best pure pgs out there and has skills that I just haven't seen before- I love Rondo and easily think that he is much more valuable than Ray and right up there with the rest of the big 3. Sure, he sometimes handles the ball a little more than necessary at times, but it's not because he is looking to take a bunch of shots.

Rondo will deserve every penny he gets when his contract is up. Hopefully he will sign with us because there are very few pgs I would rather have (maybe CP3 and D. Williams)...

Trading Rondo (especially at his current salary) would yield nothing but a complete rebuilding phase right in the middle of our greatest historic period since the 80's.  Someone get me a bucket.    :-X

Rondo is good... but I don't feel that superstar vibe watching him as I do watching someone like Rose. If you can truly trade him for someone worthwhile like the Jefferson/KG trade, I say do it. He's definitely far from untouchable in my opinion.

so if you could trade a young guy for a better chance to win again now or next year, i think you'd have to at least consider it.

I generally agree.  However,

1) Danny doesn't seem to buy into this philosophy, as based upon last off-season; and

2) What player or players is/are out there that will give us a better chance at winning than Rondo?  I mean, we already won a championship with the kid starting, and he's been better this season.

yeah, i doubt there are any actual good deals to be made, you couldn't get equal value to rondo because his salary is so low relative to how good he is.

but the theoretical point of trading the future for the now is still reasonable - that's basically what got us here anyway.

another point i hesitate to make is that i think there are several point guards in the league who could fill in for rondo and we'd still have a great chance at winning. Rondo's done very well, but it's not beyond reason to think that another good pg would also have good stats playing on this team. It's still really all about the big 3.
