  • Let them hate, as long as they fear
Myself. Second biggest celebrity was Hank Aaron
And someday in the midst of time,
When they ask you if you knew me
Remember that you were a friend of mine

I met Heath Ledger at a bar once in NYC, was a real good guy and fun to talk too. Probably the biggest non-athlete I've met.

Jim Craig.  Great guy.  Gave me a signed poster of himself with the flag draped around him.

Also met Bill Cartwright, Margot Kidder, Ossie Davis, and Jim Furyk.

I once saw Carmen Electra in person, back in the days she was dating Dennis Rodman.  Hard to believe, but she's prettier in person.

Kudos for meeting Hugh Beaumont! My vote for best so far.

My claim to fame is having slept at Alan Alda's house 3 different times in the late 70's (during his MASH run).  I was friends with his daughter (just a friend).  I slept in the 'Emmy room' -- had dinner with him, went to a play with him.

I met quite a few-in the luckiest 2 years of my life in NC, I interned with the Wiz and discussed Air Jordans with MJ himself, had Will Ferrell teach a history class of mine, and sat at the bar with Steve Buscemi and Vince Vaughn.
MJ-knew he was MJ, not really into to small talk, probably just annoyed he was talking to the guy mopping the floor when the Wiz ran to the other end
WF-very candid and personable with each person in the class
SB-the funniest out of them all. unbelievably nice to everybody, and easily the biggest hit with the ladies out of them all
VV-total Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.bag. Met him twice, first time he tried to ask our girlfriends for a certain sex act in the middle of the bar (on Valentine's Day)as he was wasted, and second time all he did was act like the annoying drunk friend that we all have.

*VV tried to do the same thing a night or 2 later at a much rougher bar, and got into a fight which eventually got SB stabbed in the neck.

Met Kevin Mchale when I was a kid in Hartford CT.

Mick Jones from The Clash bought me a beer in Boston Ma.

Dated Grechan Mol (Betty Page) in High School.

Strange list now that I read it.

Dino Radja - summer of '89 at the merch store in the Garden.  I had not yet gone to a game in the Gardens, so this was the best alternative at this point in my life.  Shopping for Cs gear, I noticed Lanny Van Eman (Jimmy Rogers 2nd assistant at the time), went up and started talking to him, and asked if we were signing Radja or not (the Globe had said "not" that day), he said, "Yup, ask him yourself."  And in walked Dino, I shook his hand which swallowed my 15 year old hand.  I asked him a few questions, but he didn't speak a lick of English.  As you know, turns out he didn't play for us for until 3 years later.

Ken Caminiti - nearly beat my a$$ in a bar-room in New Orleans when he was on injured assignment with the Zephyrs (Astro's AAA team at the time).  Perhaps one of the craziest experiences I've ever had.  If anyone's interested I'll tell the whole story.  What a maniac.

Dennis Rodman - shooed me off when I asked for an autograph in a Dallas hotel lobby when I was there for a fraternity convention.  Hey, it was a personal shoo.

Bill Bradley - shook his hand in the Newark airport well before he ran for prez.

JoJo White - sat a few seats from at a Hornets/Cs game in New Orleans.  I approached him for an autograph, and he was so gracious - he offered me a seat and we chatted for a few minutes.  No one else in the section recognized him (all Hornets fans).

Tommy Heinsohn - also graciously signed an autograph and chatted for a few moments during that same game.

John Popper - sat with him in a late night s***hole in New Orleans (Snake n Jakes) and discussed paper towels versus air blowers in public restrooms.  He drank White Russians like water and ate some non-descript pharmies like Flintsones vitamins.  Cool guy though.  Got me and my friends into the show he was playing (back stage) the next night with Dave Matthews.  I actually think Blues Traveler was a more famous band than DMB at the time.

John Goodman - he actually lives in N.O., and I met him several times and broke bread (Lobsters specifically) with the guy.  Drinks Bud, and it looks like an airplane coctail bottle in his hands.

James Gandolfini - sat at the bar in a restaurant where I tended bar in N.O.  Surprisingly enough, he drank Corona.  Go figure.

I dated a few girls with famous family - never actually met them though - one was the daughter of a 70s musician, the other a niece of a still famous actor...
