When I lived in Newton, Jason Varitek's condo was right around the corner from mine. On Halloween 2004, he gave trick-or-treaters signed baseballs. Which were more popular than my Kit-Kats.

Most famous non-athlete: Hugh Beaumont (a/k/a Ward Cleaver). He came to dinner at my house when I was a kid.

Matt Damon.  I caddied for his dad quite a bit the past few summers.  Both are very cool guys.

he stiffed one of my friends at a restaurant years back (post Goodwill Hunting), after they gave him special treatment (essentially set off a section of the place for he and whoever he was with) - didn't leave a tip... not cool man, not cool

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
this past Janruary, on a tram going from one end of Detroit's airport to the other, on a sunday.

First, met Tony SIragusa, then while I was talkin to the goose, Russel Simmons and Rev Run came one the tram. My girlfriend made nice with Rev's wife (from the show) and I talked to Rev. Russell skipped up and down the tram like a 12 yr old while screaming into his cellphone (in a happy way).

EDIT: and for those who follow hockey and football, to this day one of my good friends is Jimmy Howard, and I played HS Football against Brian Leonard. I also hung out with him (same friends) a lot in HS.

I try to make it a point when I see someone famous not to talk to them, my thinking is always everyone comes up tot hese people and sweats them so I'll be the one guy who doesn't. Every time I come to Boston I seem to be at the club or bar that all the athletes are at, I've seen pretty much all of them out and about. Olowakandi was definitely the tallest, and Ted Johnson the biggest in person, dude was a truck. I live in Brooklyn and was waiting in line in front of Adrian Grenier last week, it was so weird to see Vinnie Chase without his entourage, other people were talking to hima nd he seemed pretty cool.

As for people I have spoken with, I used to run all the sound for my college, and Slick Rick was by far the nicest, we also did a show with Hank the angry drunken dwarf of Howard Stern fame, who I totally think was faking being drunk that night.

I met Doug Flutie a couple of times (I grew up in Natick).  Not really the nicest guy I have ever met.

I also lived right around the corner from Jim Corsi, so I met him a couple times, and used to sell raffle tickets, and other things that adults use kids to sell, to his wife.

I met Siragusa in a hotel in Baltimore- he was doing a broadcast of a Raven's game. He was absolutely gigantic- like at least 350 pounds, probably more. Anyway what was most remarkable was that he had not one, not two, but THREE absolutely smoking hot women following him around. Guess it matters more how much your wallet weighs....

My GF whispers in my ear "Is that one of the guys from Soprano's?" and I had to blink twice before I realized it was the goose. THe ravens SB ring didn't hurt for identification either.

Matt Damon's brother was my neighbor in Arlington but he recently moved.  Matt would always come over for the holidays.

I was waiting for a cab with some friends last September and we happened across Clay Buchholz. It was 2 AM, and he was also trying to hail a cab. I talked to him for a couple of minutes. I obviously brought up the no-hitter and a bunch of other crap that he probably wasn't interested in talking with me about. He was very polite. Then he scurried away when a cab pulled up across the street.

My best encounter with a celebrity was the time I caught a ride with Norm Van Brocklin at Falcons training camp. I was about 14 waiting for my grandfather to pick me up.
Also had a great conversation with Jim Kelly at the Sporting Goods Supershow in Atlanta. Tried to introduce myself to Bill Russell at the same show but he ignored me.
Also met Bob Griese in a restaurant before his first preseason game.
Knew Robert Brooks, Ben Coates, and Gaines Adams as high-schoolers. My sister ran track the same time as RB, and my daughters cheered for Gaines.
The only actor I've met was Bo Hopkins(Dynasty, Gator). Partied with him one Christmas Eve at my great-uncles.

I went to school with George Harrison's son. His dad stopped by a couple of times. Once I was even blasting some Beatles :-)

If Ward Cleaver came to my house for dinner when I was a kid, I would spend my entire life telling that anecdote to girls in bars to pick them up.

The one NBA player I remember meeting was Luc Longley, after a college game when he was a senior at New Mexico.  I asked him if he was going in the NBA, and he said, "Aw Yeah!"  Then a few months later it was in the news that he decided on the NBA instead of returning to Australia, and I was like, I already knew that.

I forgot the person I knew the best, Stump Mitchell. My brother played football with him at The Citadel and I saw every college game he played and knew him quite well. Saw him on the sidelines for the Redskins the other night. Came with Zorn from Seattle.

Randy Jackson, ****, Dr. Dre, Halle Berry, and Drew Carey amongst others.  Drew Carey is one of the nicest people you will ever meet.  When I lived in Boston the biggest celebrity I met was probably Drew Bledsoe :)
