No re-pick. He is eligible for the draft, not to play.  If you start giving repicks or allow reasoning to let somebody play, it becomes a very slippery slope.

I'm going to have to agree with the Rockets GM. You are taking every other player with their contract having no bearing on picking them, why would Childress contract be different?

One, because that's the way the vast majority of us understood the rules.  Two, because Childress isn't eligible to play in the NBA next season, unlike every other player in this draft.  We're drafting NBA players.

Again, is it okay if I draft Theodore Papaloukas and make him my starting PG?  No, because he's signed in Europe, is ineligible for the NBA, and has no desire to play over here.

I have no problem with letting the Rockets have a "do over" if they were confused about the rules.  However, from my standpoint -- and most of the board -- he's not eligible.
1. The Commish has spoken start working on an elaborate story in which you lure Childress back to the states.
2. Is this Paps guy really that good? I don't follow the international game, what would you project his numbers to be in the NBA (a question for everyone but mainly directed at Roy)
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

well one minor difference between Papaloukas and Childress then is, i guess, desire.  By all accounts Childress wants to be in the NBA but couldn't get the contract he wanted... The same reason a guy like Iguodala is currently unsigned (if he jumps to Europe he would then be ineligible?).

for the record, i'm with the camp who believes that childress is a player drafted for the future, and thus he will not have an immediate impact.

if no one has picked since the rockets, how about giving jsaad a do-over? clearly there was a misunderstanding and i wouldn't object if he was able to pick again...

Yes I believe this is the only fair way if Childress is not eligible. I would like to motion a clarification on this matter as well

I'm fine with a re-pick.  It's clear that at least a few people were confused about the rules.  These are special circumstances.

I think we should clarify the rule for everyone:  players under foreign contract are eligible to be drafted, but not necessarily to play.  Otherwise, I think you're going to see a run on Euros over the next several picks.

No repick.  When somebody tried to change their pick in the first round it was not allowed.  Dont change the rules now.  you made a bad pick for this year, but one that could help in the future. Deal with it.  He has signed a contract to play in a league that is not the NBA.  Which puts him in the same group as upperclassman in college. IMO

It is not your turn, it is the Cav's pick. You have already picked.

One is a case of buyers remorse, one is a case of not understanding players eligibility to play.

But I didn't see anything.

I think the Commish is still considering the Rockets' appeal, but it's looking like he's going to get a do-over, due to legitimate confusion.

It would be different from my perspective if Jsaad was the only one confused, but three or four other GMs seem to be, as well.  Out of fundamental fairness (and in the spirit of fun, since this isn't exactly a cut-throat competition) I think a re-do is fine.

(Again...  that's only my vote.  wdleehi has the final call.)
