I actually had to double check again just to make sure he wasn’t picked.

The gamble pays off,

The Rockets get their target pick after all.

Out of Stanford: Josh Childress

Oooh, good pick. I'm surprised he's still available.

Well...  he did sign a contract overseas, meaning he's not available to play in our league next year.  The Rockets own his rights going forward, but this isn't somebody who will help this season.

(Thus, why I don't draft, say, Theodore Papaloukas this round.  He's not an NBA player.)

I see nothing in the rules about him not being eligible and I asked the commish before the draft if he was free game. He gave the ok.

Childress will have an immediate impact on my roster.

Just to be clear, you asked if you could draft him.  Now it is up to the team to convince him to come back.  (and if you come up with a good story, I am sure everyone will buy it)

Whaat? That’s not my understanding.

Everyone who is eligible to play in the NBA is a free agent in this draft. To say he's signed somewhere else is up surd as everyone is signed elsewhere.

You take players as you find them.  I.e., Josh Childress isn't eligible to play in the NBA this year.  Larry Bird is 50 years old.  Jason Smith is out for most of the season with a leg injury.

Again, there are a whole host of international players that I'd love to have on my team.  I'm not drafting them yet, because they're not eligible to play in the U.S. due to foreign contracts.

Hobbs, show me the rule that states this. I verified with the commish before the draft and he mentioned nothing of foreign contract obiligations...

Childress is a proven player in the NBA. why would you draft unproven talent from the Euroleague anyway?

I stand to filibuster this notion.

He's eligible to be picked.  He's not eligible to play.

The only guys who *can't* be picked are guys who aren't old enough to be drafted (i.e., Ricky Rubio).

He will not have an immediate impact as he is playing on another continent. Why dont I draft brett Favre.  He isnt playing in the NBA this year

I'm going to have to agree with the Rockets GM. You are taking every other player with their contract having no bearing on picking them, why would Childress contract be different?

I see nothing in the rules about this. It's crap.

Childress has an immediate impact.

One, because that's the way the vast majority of us understood the rules.  Two, because Childress isn't eligible to play in the NBA next season, unlike every other player in this draft.  We're drafting NBA players.

Again, is it okay if I draft Theodore Papaloukas and make him my starting PG?  No, because he's signed in Europe, is ineligible for the NBA, and has no desire to play over here.

I have no problem with letting the Rockets have a "do over" if they were confused about the rules.  However, from my standpoint -- and most of the board -- he's not eligible.

I interpreted eligibility as is he at least 19. Not contract obligations.

I need a commish ruling on this one

Why is Childress coming back to the US?   Answer that, and I am sure most people will count him when it comes time to 'debate' your team.

Good thing about that, you have 2 weeks to come up with the reason.

for the record, i'm with the camp who believes that childress is a player drafted for the future, and thus he will not have an immediate impact.

if no one has picked since the rockets, how about giving jsaad a do-over? clearly there was a misunderstanding and i wouldn't object if he was able to pick again...

Commish can you please make a ruling. If he is not eligible and you'd like to clarify that now, fine, i want my pick back.

Yes I believe this is the only fair way if Childress is not eligible. I would like to motion a clarification on this matter as well

I'll wait on my pick until we get some resolution here.  I'm not due for a couple hours anyway.
CB Draft Bucks: Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, Tobias Harris, Zach LaVine, Aaron Afflalo, Jeff Green, Donatas Motiejunas, Jarrett Jack, Frank Kaminsky, Lance Stephenson, JaVale McGee, Shane Larkin, Nick Young

DKC Bucks. Also terrible.

He is eligible to be drafted.  He has a contract overseas.  If you select him, it is up to you to figure out how to get him back in the US.
