With the 156th pick the Memphis Grizzlies select: Rudy Fernández.

Nice one.  I was hoping he'd fall to #26.  Nice pickup.  He looked great in his last game.

I actually had to double check again just to make sure he wasn’t picked.

The gamble pays off,

The Rockets get their target pick after all.

Out of Stanford: Josh Childress

Oooh, good pick. I'm surprised he's still available.

Well...  he did sign a contract overseas, meaning he's not available to play in our league next year.  The Rockets own his rights going forward, but this isn't somebody who will help this season.

(Thus, why I don't draft, say, Theodore Papaloukas this round.  He's not an NBA player.)

Yeah...but the Rockets already have a pretty deep and young team...if they could get Childress in a couple of years, they'd be dangerous.
CB Draft Bucks: Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, Tobias Harris, Zach LaVine, Aaron Afflalo, Jeff Green, Donatas Motiejunas, Jarrett Jack, Frank Kaminsky, Lance Stephenson, JaVale McGee, Shane Larkin, Nick Young

Whaat? That’s not my understanding.

Everyone who is eligible to play in the NBA is a free agent in this draft. To say he's signed somewhere else is up surd as everyone is signed elsewhere.

so we can draft overseas plyaers (or ex-NBAers like Krstic, delfinao, garbajosa) but they will only count as us having rights?  I thought we could draft any players in the world and have them play for our team....

does this apply to retired and/or d-leaguers in the later rounds?  what about unsigend draft picks like JR Giddens :)

This already came up when Krstic was drafted.  You can have his rights, but there's no guarantee that he's going to play - same with retired players or undrafted free agents.  If a player doesn't appear bound for the NBA this year, then it's unfair to count them as an active player.

You take players as you find them.  I.e., Josh Childress isn't eligible to play in the NBA this year.  Larry Bird is 50 years old.  Jason Smith is out for most of the season with a leg injury.

Again, there are a whole host of international players that I'd love to have on my team.  I'm not drafting them yet, because they're not eligible to play in the U.S. due to foreign contracts.

I see nothing in the rules about him not being eligible and I asked the commish before the draft if he was free game. He gave the ok.

Childress will have an immediate impact on my roster.

If you say so.  I'm going to treat him as a European player when it comes to looking at your roster though.  I figured when you said that the gamble paid off that it meant that you were gambling that he'd come back to the NBA; why do you think no one else picked him until now?
