I will not recognize any player that is under foreign contract that is picked from 6/7 on.

Well, right.  Those players aren't eligible to play immediately.  However, if you're working on a team of the future thing, and somebody picks Childress, maybe he's factored in (for the future, not the present.)

If his contract is torn up like every other player in this draft how is he not eligible?

3 things to address next year:

1) clarification on players under foreign contract (I got screwed)
2) Vetoes (we lost a great GM)
3) Players who submitted a no brainer 1st pick (Lakers screwed and we lost a great blogger/GM)

1) one way or another.
2) Do away with it we aren't little kids
3) Just like NFL does it. If the first pick is announced to the "Media" it is exactly that.

I do think those are three areas to address, although not necessarily make clear.

1) I think the status of foreign players should be kept how it was last year, and is for this year's draft:  players under foreign contract can be drafted, but won't play immediately.

2) I'm not a fan of vetoes in general, but I do think there needs to be somebody to overrule absolutely ridiculous trades (like a 1 & 3 for a 2).  Maybe use it less next year, but still have one in place.

3) Once a pick is posted, it should count.  Picks that are PM'd should only count if the poster explicitly says "I want you to draft for me, no matter what".  The Commish isn't a safety net.  (Last year, we had people complain when they sent us a list, and then we drafted for them from that list.  They complained that they should have been able to make their own selection.  Coincidentally enough, one of the owners complaining last year was also one of the ones complaining this year.

I lost an 11/4 my friend...

Maybe, but what are the chances he would've on the board otherwise? I'd have given him a hard look at 5 (#27) and 6 (#6) if I though he was available to play in 2008-2009; and I can't be the only one. In fact, I'd guess he'd have gone at the back of the 5th round, along with Bell, Korver, Gomes and Outlaw.

Also, I have to disagree with Roy (usually the wrong side of the argument to be on...) in that I think this league in particular could benefit from a more liberal veto, that or a pre-draft trade cap.

Also, I have to disagree with Roy (usually the wrong side of the argument to be on...) in that I think this league in particular could benefit from a more liberal veto, that or a pre-draft trade cap.

I'm of the mind that the league shouldn't protect people from themselves.  The people with the best teams are the ones who were able to make the best deals, without those trades being completely ridiculous.  The game as presently constituted rewards activity and negotiation skill.  Thus, why I prefer a very conservative veto. 

On the other hand, there is certainly a set of circumstances where a veto is justified, and I wouldn't want to preclude the option.

I saw a team in front of me who's roster was screaming Childress and I overspent, I've been wheeling and dealing since day one to afford me that right. It's very disappointing...

There has been a trade:

Portland trades: 6(7)

Houston trades: 6(10), 11 (4)


There is no "maybe".

And let's be honest, the Veto has only been used officially twice, for the same trade.  


The rest have been warnings that the veto could be used.  (twice?  three times?)





For the most part, every thing has been let through.  





As for players, if they are eligible to play in the NBA, they can be drafted.  It is the responsibility of the GM to get them in this country to play.

To be fair you didn't lose an 11/4 and get nothing in return.  If you had picked Hakim Warrick in that spot you would have had another 11/4.  You took Ty Thomas, who gives you a 7/4.  You lost 4 points, but had the opportunity to take several other guys who could have replaced Childress.
