Good news.  Little surprised with the Tony signing...I was sure he was gone after drafting Giddens and Walker.

Could I be reading too much into this thinking that maybe Danny is having serious problems in trying to sign Giddens?

I think the team projects Giddens at the SF position, and doesn't expect Walker to contribute much this season.

Next year Ainge can reevaluate.  Giddens and Walker are unknowns. If Giddens and Walker are both NBA ready, someone can be traded. If not, Tony will be needed.

According to Danny Ainge, the Celtics have agreed to terms with each on two-year contracts.

Ainge would not be specific on the financial figures, but according to a source, both are being paid in the mid-$2 million range.

In the case of House, the money is roughly half the mid-level exception of $5.585 million.

Not wild about the two year contracts. Both make up almost $5mil on next season's books which will make it difficult for Danny to spend his MLE next season considering the Luxury tax.

Glad to have Tony Allen back in the fold. He could be a huge gain for the squad next season.

Feels like we overpaid House considering the second year. Regardless it's not much of an overpayment and he'll definitely help the team defend it's title. Very happy to have Eddie back.

I don't think luxury tax has ever been a problem. Contract length, on the other hand, has, and the team got exactly what they wanted with House and Allen.

I'm happy about House.  Tony, not so much.  The team has bigger needs than a backup SG.

We now have one slot to replace both James Posey and P.J. Brown, unless Giddens and/or Walker isn't on the roster.  Our bench has taken a fairly substantial step backwards this off-season.

The upside is that Scal, House, and Tony will all have mid-range expiring contracts, which should give us some flexibility in the trade market.

Ditto. Ideally, we'd add a SF and a C. Very undersized backcourt if we stand pad. Pierce is the only one taller than 6'5''.

Ditto. Hope Ainge can still exercise the entire MLE next season. If not, this was a very bad move.

I think both of them are being slightly overpaid. Allen mostly, because I don't think he adds much.

I have a feeling that the Celts are going to try to have TA fill the defensive intensity that Posey brought to the floor.  Managing TA's tendencies on the offensive end may be a bit of work, but if he's healthy (big if) then he may be the shut down guy Possey was.  Just a quick note, it wasn't Posey who shut down Lebron or Kobe, it was Pierce.

The splitting of the MLE bothers me a bit because who knows what may be available when training camps roll around.
I love my kids, call me a sap - it's true.

1. I never thought for a minute that Tony Allen was coming back. Boy was I wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong. Well, we all get to now see just how much that injury hampered him and if he can come back ala Tony just prior to the injury. Just please, please, please end the Tony Allen at the point experiment, please. The man is a two guard, leave him there. I'm not crazy about the signing. but I'm not angered or disappointed by it either.

2. Eddie House resigning is another matter. I think they could have gotten a better PG out there but definitely not one that fits into the second team better than Eddie. He wanted to return and he will. Good for him, good for the Celtics.

3. And good for us who finally have something else to talk about, though, my guess is a large majority of this board is going to be pleased with the moves.

4. Contractually Tony got Bird rights contract and Eddie got a part of the MLE. Walker will probably get a 3 year deal as part of the MLE as well with a team option in the third year.

So does Danny look for a defensive wing with the approximately $2 million that will be left over, a non-project big, or does he save it awaiting someone to drop in his lap?

Is Danny done and is this our team to start the season?

Two big important questions in my mind.

I sure hope not.

P.J. --> O'Bryant = Downgrade
Posey --> Bill Walker = Downgrade
Tony --> Tony = No Change
House --> House = No Change

That hurts.  We'll see some sort of contribution from Giddens, and some of our young guys (Rondo, BBD, maybe Perk) can be expected to improve.  On the other hand, the "big three" is getting older, as well, so it's possible that their skills slip slightly.

My thought was that if you losed Posey, you needed to upgrade the team elsewhere.  We haven't done that.

am not exactly ecstatic with this move...

but I do feel Eddie House has earned his keep ...

I sure hope TA keeps his knees in check though... we don't need an injury plagued year from Tony

do we have any $$ left for another addition to this team?

Glad about House, but resigning Tony seems pretty lame, and not in the "uncool" way, but the "We lost our bench, glue, intangibles guy and we're just going to limp into the season hoping Tony can improve the PDF* category"

*PDF is a new statistic that is used to designate how many times a player ends the team's possession by dribbling the ball off of his foot out of bounds.  "Posssesions ended with a Dribble off of the Foot."
We're the ones we've been waiting for.
