At this point it goes to Paul.  Whoever gets it hopefully says all sorts of nice things about how it was a team effort.
Celtics fan for life.

356 and 1 Possible MVP!!!

I sit here today at work still saying to myself what a great historic comeback that was.  How historic you ask Well I sat with a couple of guys back in 2002 during the eastern conference finals in my brothers dorm room with a bunch of other guys and watched 171-1 take place.  For those of you that don't know what 171 and 1 is here you go.  It was one of the greatest comebacks in NBA playoff history involving the Celtics and nets.  Only one Celtic remains from that team and he was a big part of last nights historic NBA Finals comeback and it wasn't his offense that carried the Celtics as was the case in 2002, it was his stifling defense on arguably the most complete player in the NBA in the last 5 years or so.  If you don't know by now the guy I'm talking you are not a Celtic fan....but it is none other than the man Paul Pierce.  Oh and if you thought 171 and 1 was great in 356 games in NBA finals history no team has pulled off a comeback of such epic
proportions So Pierce now has another game on ESPN classic which will probably be shown to the public again 2 days after the playoffs.   Oh another thing 171 and one was great but I think that 356 and 1 sounds better.  Celtics in 5.  I said 6 before the series started but i just think they ripped the Lakers Collective Hearts out last night.

Who knows? It can be Kobe or Gasol (God forbids). It' not over till it's over.

That being said, the best player so far in the Finals has been Ray Allen. PP a close second.

I say give the MVP to Pierce, Garnett & Allen - they were all equally important imho.

I think Garnett's effort on defense is being underappreciated.  Gasol & Odom largely disappeared in this series thanks to KG.

If I absolutely had to choose one of the three it would be Pierce (although statistically Ray is the front runner right now).

I have to agree with the post that said there is no MVP of this series - that has been the beauty of this team all year long!

Lastly - one more game to win before we can be getting too confident here.

I'm going to take the whole series into account that being said Ray Allen has been the Celtics best player this whole series. Look at his game log since game one...

Ray Allen Game 1: 19 points, 8 rebounds and 5 ast playing 43 mins

Ray Allen Game 2: 17, 2 and 2 in 40 min. low numbers but he got Kobe in foul trouble

Ray Allen Game 3 keep us in the game and if Doc had not went away from him the Cs would have swept the Lakers by now that being said look at his game log.....25 points, 5 rebounds, 2 ast. 1 block shot in 41 minutes

Ray Allen Game 4: 48 minutes for Ray Allen he had 19 points, 9 rebounds, 2 ast. and a Block shot

Ray is not just doing the job on offense he has played some great D.  Even when Kobe hit those shots on him late in the 4th in game 3 those was hard shots to make but it was hard because Ray Allen did a great job on Kobe all series.  Now people want to crown Paul because he said he wanted to guard Kobe in last night game....Man anyone watching these game know Ray Allen has been our best player.

So far I say PP. But Ray Allen has been fantastic, what a turnaround. I was very negative toward him, and Doc for sticking with him, but it's so nice to be proven wrong. Whatever that slump was, physical or mental, he never got down on himself and has been great lately.
And KG- just as important as the others. Missing more shots than usual, but still playing great.
But really, who the heck cares who the MVP is. Let Kobe have it ;)

Well I've been watching and I say it's Pierce.
Pierce willed his team to victory in games 1 & 2.  He's made all the big plays.  He's had the best defense on Kobe BY FAR from either Ray or Posey.  Plus, with the Lakers making Doc sit our only true point guard on the bench almost this entire series because of their defensive scheme totally ignoring him and doubling PP and KG, it's been Paul that has been our facilitator.  He's the guy that's made things happen whether it shows up in the box score or not.  I guess you see that when you WATCH the games.
Besides, you can't have a guy show up for one series and play no better than equal to a guy who has stepped up every time this team needed a win in this post season as well as shut down the other teams best player in 3 of the 4 series, and hand him the MVP. Can't do it.

I never thought anyone other than KG had a chance at MVP on the Celtics.  Paul has earned it.

I think the Finals MVP should be Ray Allen hands down. He has been the most consistent in the Finals and was the only one to show up in game 3. Ray has had it rough in the Playoffs both on and off the court for the first 2 series. He was able to overcome all of it though and come through when we needed him most. Paul Pierce is the C's captain. KG is the soul of the team, and Ray's the Finals MVP.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Now you going to give it to a guy who had 6 point in game 3 and wasn't a factor at all until he came back in the game and turn the ball over and tried to force things and the team lost????????  Ray Allen is the MVP on the finals.  You want Paul Pierce to get MVP for what he has done all post season and that's great but this MVP is for the finals and Ray Allen has does it on the offensive and defensive end side of the ball during the finals.  Ray Allen has done a great job on Kobe Bryant too.  Sure it looks good for Paul Pierce to guard Kobe after 30 minutes of the game has already been played.  But when has Kobe gone off?  he had a good game 3 but that is 1 game out of 5 games we played the Lakers that Kobe has gone off and all those times Ray Allen has been the one on Kobe.

Is there any precedence to co-MVP's? Because it's Allen and Pierce neck-and-neck.

I think whoever has the better game (Allen or Pierce) in the deciding game will win.

Cannot begin to say how happy I am for Ray.  I love how much the Celtics fans have stuck by him throughout the playoffs.
I love my kids, call me a sap - it's true.

I guess there is no such thing as a co-MVP with 3 MVP's but I somewhat agree with the earlier poster.

- Garnett's defense has been underappreciated and he has pretty much dominated the glass at crucial moments all series long.  He really showed how great his defense is after Perk was injured last night and Gasol and Odom completely disappeared and he was there allowing no easy buckets inside unless it was from him coming over to help on a driving Kobe.  His bucket to stretch the lead to 5 at the 2:00 mark was the shot everyone had been waiting for his entire career and was HUGE.

- Pierce has just been outstanding and enough can't be said about him playing through what I think is probably a nagging injury that he doesn't really let too many people know about.  His defense almost made Kobe look scared of his physical play.

- Allen has looked amazing in every game and his defense has been even more impressive.  That triple clutch shot he made would be on every highlight reel on every major sports network if it had been Kobe performing the same move - just watch that beauty in slow motion.

- As long as they can close this series out I take comfort in knowing that all three of these players performed at crucial times and had clutch buckets in a CRUCIAL game.  Hopefully I never hear the word "not clutch" in the same sentence with any of these players names ever again.
