I think we saw too much tactics from Italy. In every Spanish attack there were 6 italians inside their area. Even when they had the ball most of the players where in their own half incase they loose the ball. Maybe Donadoni didn`t have anything else to do without Pirlo so we went ultradefensive and pray for a good counterattack. It reminded me of Italy in WC94. I can`t understand why he didn`t use earlier Del Piero. I can`t be worse than Cassano. I felt sorry for Toni. I`m not his biggest fan but they guy tries so hard in every game but he is alone with 2-3 defenders all around him.

At least Spain tried to play ball but against Italian determined to draw you can`t do much. And they had a heavy load to carry. The June 22nd curse, 88 years without win against Italy, too many failures in major competitions. Considering all this i think they had a good game.

The two keepers Casillas and Buffon were excellent.

the two best keepers in the world.

Nah, I have Cech as the second best in the world. He was the best before he got injured but he hasn't been quite the same since, still regaining his confidence. Casillas for third? I'm fine with that.

Disagree and Cech doesn't make many mistakes

no, not many. but he has made some crucial errors (against turkey for example) and certainly more than the other 2. regardless, he's a class act and sitting pretty in third behind iker and gigi.

Agreed that we disagree

Just looking at last night Buffon fluffed a shot that was hit straight at him, which he was lucky didn't bobble right into his goal and instead hit the post. Meanwhile Iker kicked the ball straight to an Italian attacker late in the game inside his own half and Italy had a 5 on 6 attack which Italy wasted. They all make roughly the same amount of mistakes. I'd say Buffon makes the least. Iker still has his moments on crosses into the box (plus kicking) although he's improved tremendously in this area over the past four years.

Cech's mistake was horrible. Ironic that their nation's most dependable player messed up in the big moment.

Edit: Casillas also got beat by Toni on that Camronesi chance on a high ball he should have claimed.

Funny.... I was thinking about this last night. I couldn`t remember Iker of Buffon making mistakes like Cech`s against Turkey but on the other hand i can`t remember Cech making any other mistake!

I`d rate Buffon first and Iker-Cech both second. Iker has some problems with crosses compared to the other 2.
But while Iker and Buffon have very healthy cariers Cech had a life threading injury (plus 50 stitches on the head a few months ago). It`s pretty impressive he is still playing it top level

On a professional level, basketball is as tough as soccer...believe me,if you get pushed by a professional basketball player(not even hit),probably you'll wake up with bruises all over your body the day after!!well,if you get elbowed...don't even wanna think about it!!
Regarding to the injuries,OK,maybe there's a bigger possibility to get injured as a soccer player! But any normal guy who doesn't play basketball professionally can't stand so much "walloping" during a basketball game...

Donadoni :
"I`m satisfied from my players and their effort. All Italians should be proud of this team and what we have achieved"

Seriously??

Do you fire Donadoni at this point?

He hasn't filled me with confidence or even hope of better times.

I`d fire him just for this stupid statement!
I don`t think that anyone else could have gone much worst.

There are rumours about Lippi again.

This is very disappointing. I just tuned in to watch the game and nothing was on. Semi-Finals don't begin til the 25th, so two more days without football in the middle of the tournament. At least the players will get some rest.

Germany-Turkey - Germany should win this easily enough
Spain-Russia - I think Spain will win. It'll be a great game of open football with both sides creating chances. I pick Spain because they have better finishers and are more likely to score the chances they create. Russia can win if their finishing is good on the day.
