I'd say the answer is to offer him a one year minimum contract, with a team option for a 2nd year. His injuries have ended him. The team may have to try to draft his replacement, and I don't think it'll be hard to find a player that does as little as him in the last pick in the 1rst rnd

Doc Rivers has the obvious answer.

Shatter Tony's confidence with continual DNPs.  Then ask that Tony be completely in tune with the situation at hand when it occurs to Doc that he needs a defensive player.  After 44 seconds sit him out another 4 games. Repeat.

I can't understand how Tony wouldn't thrive in that environment.

This is going to sound strange but I say start him or cut ties with him.

TP to Finkelskyhook. Great name, wish I'd thought it up! I remember High Henry well. What athleticism :)  That could be a new thread for some boring off-season day- "Could Hank Finkel play in today's NBA?"

he doesn't get paid to be confident. he gets paid to perform well. Powe handled that. Gomes did. To a lesser extent Baby did. Green didn't.He's had plenty of chances.

Tony Allen's career ends with the Celtics' season.

heh?

I will forever give up posting on any sports related blog if Tony Allen has an NBA contract next year.

Like we believe that...

Believe it or not, I will, because if he's still in the NBA, then I clearly have no clue what I'm talking about, and my eye for basketball talent has gone blind.

You better start preparing for another hobby then, because there is no way on earth that TA will not be on someone's NBA roster next year. I hate TA's game with a passion and am one of his biggest nay- sayers, but the guy will 100% for certain be on someone's team. You may want to get one of them canes with the red at the end of them as well, because I think you're getting blurry quickly... ;D

After four years Tony Allen is really no better than he was when he got here. It's time to invest the time and money being put into Tony on a player that could reap much more benefits.

Say bye to Tony and thank you. He needs to go.

I agree with most of the points here, and as I stated previously, I would opt to let him go as it stands now. I just feel he should be put at his true position before making a fair assessment of him, and that whatever time he does have left as a Celtic, could be better utilized for both him and the team ... in many facets. I guess I still see so much potential in the kid, and feel he really hasn't been given a fair shake.

I hate letting guys go for free. If anyone has any interest in him (I think they will), then sign and trade him. Even if it's just for a 2nd round draft pick.

His potential is compromised - not as much as Gerald Green, perhaps, but compromised nonetheless - by his low basketball IQ. I doubt he has much value around the league.

It's time to move on from him. The roster spot is too valuable.

The answer is Tony Allen is a useful player on a terrible team when he can get minutes, but his lack of discipline, turnovers, and low basketball IQ limit his presence on a good roster.

If the choice is between playing Tony Allen OR Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, or James Posey ... there really isn't a choice.  Tony Allen is a liability compared to those guys.

He will move onto to a bad team, get minutes, and be the same frustratingly talented player he was with us.  Good enough to show flashes, but over a prolonged period of time; he is the type of player that will get a coach fired.

Wow, so many TA haters.  Not me.  He'd be playing 20 minutes a night if I were the coach.  Love his defense.

Once again, TA and Delonte West will be solid rotation players in this league long after Ray Allen is gone.  But not for the Celtics.

As of right now, Tony Allen should be the 12th man.  He should only see time during garbage time.

As for the offseason, he is a low priority.  A fall back at the SG spot.

That's a brilliant comment. A 24 and a 26 year old will be in the league long after  a guy who will be 33 in a few weeks is long gone. Any other nuggets of wisdom?!
