Wow.  I'm about to bar this group from using the Celticsblog forums  to conduct its draft, if it's going to be done in such an arbitrary manner.

The "commissioner" who proposed trading first round picks in the first place, and who made multiple posts about such picks, is now saying they can't be traded, because Edgar came out ahead?

I hope you guys realize how arbitrary and ridiculous this looks from afar.  A veto system is fine.  Arbitrarily changing the rules to specifically exclude one player's trade shouldn't be.  Since draft pick trades *have* been allowed since the draft began -- per the "commissioner" -- they should be allowed now.  Changing the rules half way through is bush league.

I barred it because it's clear people value them way too differently. Some people value them like they are nothing, some people value them like they are a ton. In reality its inbetween, and since people can't seem to even come close to its value and are on both ends of the extremes I decided to get rid of it.

If people disagree with this they can speak up and I will change my mind. I just feel that it was clear when you have people like you/wdheeli/others completly dismissing a 1st round pick as anything of value saying oh you can draft sergi whoeever, then people like blake overvaluing it giving up 6th, 8th, and 9th round picks for it is just to confusing. When in reality i'd say a future 1st round pick is on average worth somewhere between a 6th-8th round pick in this draft, but it's clear people don't see it as that.

CD5, if you're barring the trade simply because it involves a future 1st round pick, then I can't agree with that decision. We should have banned these type of trades from the get-go, and I would support a decision that says there should be no further trades involving draft picks. But this one should be 'grandfathered in,' assuming it passes a veto process, because there was no injunction against these trades in place when the trade was agreed to by both teams.

The trade should withstand a vote by the league.

If I have to choose between 'allow' or 'veto,' I say allow the trade.

1.  There should be a time limit on the voting.

2.  Let's make sure we know the rules of the veto:

It takes 11 votes to overturn a trade....so it doesn't matter if edgar or I vote on this. If the rules are to be changed that it is majority wins, then edgar and I need to vote.

3.  To not allow trades of future picks makes no sense.  Why wouldn't we?  Because we can't determine an exact value?  Silly.

Roy, I agree with what you are saying.  Edgar's trade should be accepted, but it should be subject to veto as every trade in any fantasy league should be (check our CelticsBlog fantasy football league, it also has a veto option.), and it doesn't seem that Edgar is willing to accept even that at this point.  I really don't care how many picks he has this year, b/c there are only so many roster spots, so he will have to cut some guys or forfeit picks later on anyway.

On a side note, it seems a little strange that you would lock this thread for any reason other than profanity which has, for the most part, been avoided.  I really appreciate all of the hard work that you guys put into this site and thank you for helping it to run smoothly, but closing this thread would be absolutely egregious.  I love the fact that the younger kids in my family can come onto this site and not have to worry about reading some of the asinine stuff that they are subject to on ESPN's boards, but please don't overpolice.

Yes Wd and sadly I cannot say u didnt told me cause u did.
i m just trying to save the whole thing but its gettin difficult by the second.

OK here i go

To post a rule about the inacceptability of trading a next year pick at this time is out of the question
The veto system is acceptable and keep the things fair when is democratic, but Im pretty sure a trade that benefit a contender will never be pro voted in a demogratic election  . And anyone can veto anything with the right "motivations"

Im not overreacting im pointing the obvious
So

I will be destroyed in this Venezuelan elections but here we go
Please listen to ur heart
We are voting THIS trade specifically

Accept Edgars trade: 2 vote in favor, 1 cote against.

veto

Accept Edgars trade: 2 vote in favor, 2 vote against

Who are the 2 people who said in favor? you and Blake? You guys aren't allowed to vote as you are the ones involved in the trade.

Please CD read before posting. Ripred.

And...Ure going to decide this too....by this time...nice. Must be a joke.

In every other veto proccess in any fantasy league the players involved in the trade do not have the right to vote. It is the same way here.

Ok I will allow people to trade future draft picks but they will be subject to veto.

For the record I am vetoing this trade because it's completly unfair. Also for the record I would have given up my 1st round draft pick this year for just a 6th and 9th round pick and even that would be a good deal for me imo.

My God.  In 3 hours I come back to a 4 page argument over trades.  From Day 1 this league has been a crapstorm.  It's already become way more of a commitment than a standard fantasy league due to this incredibly taxing draft process, and now we've got even more drama.  The season hasn't even started yet and I'm sick of this already.  Issues here are being handled as if we were all in 3rd grade.

While I appreciate all the effort that has been put in by the creator, CD5, this has been terrible so far, and if this is the way things are going to shake out I'm not going to worry about commitment or even future draft picks because this league might not even last.
CB Draft Bucks: Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, Tobias Harris, Zach LaVine, Aaron Afflalo, Jeff Green, Donatas Motiejunas, Jarrett Jack, Frank Kaminsky, Lance Stephenson, JaVale McGee, Shane Larkin, Nick Young

DKC Bucks. Also terrible.

I agreed with Champkind. And I will put a stop on this RIGHT NOW!!

Its going to be easy
If there are not 10 votes by the time I make Blakes pick in the 6th round that is 9.30 today
The trade is valid.

And no more discusion on ths subject or I will have to go with Roy Hobbs and ask for a gentle LOCK of this disorder.

Final

Im putting my trade in votation and theres no need of continue this nonsenses

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
My vote can be bought for a 7th round pick in the top 20.

Kidding, kidding. Im voting against a veto in this case, because Edgar did not propose the trade, and although I could go on for hours about the disparity of value between what was given compared to what is gained here, its Blake's choice.

I also however feel like banning further trading of draft picks until after the season is a fantastic idea, otherwise teams are going to get dug into so deep a hole, there will be no getting out within my lifetime.

Alright, according to the schedule, I'm up to draft, and I need to get out of the house so I'm making it now.  Sorry Jay.

I just want to clear this up, and I will not discuss this any further.  I did not vote in favor of or against the proposed trade.  My stance is that we SHOULD be able to trade future draft picks, but that such trades (like all other trades in the league) shoul be subject to veto.  In this case we must vote by 9:30 when Edgar is due to pick, but during the regular season there should be a one or two day window where each GM has a chance to think over the propsed trades and decide whether to veto or let it go.

With that said, I still have not voiced my opinion regarding this specific trade, all that I have done is said that the basic principle behind the trade (picks in this years draft for picks in next years draft.) should be allowed.  I have not decided whether I want to veto the trade or not yet, but will do so before 9:30 tonight.  At this point, I'm leaning more towards saying "i don't care." But I still want to think it over when I have chance to actually look at the picks involved and not keep looking for my boss behind my back.

I've got to leave in about 5 minutes here.  Can I make my pick yet or do I have to wait twenty minutes?  If I have to wait, can someone make it for me? I'll send you my list.

Yeah, it looks like the earliest you can make your pick is at 5:00.

I'm not a mod, but I'll be here, if you want to send me your pick, IL.

Sure, no problem.

P.S. This:

I knew there was a reason I got out when I did.

It was just to all over the place.  The organization has not been good.

Immature.
