My two cents:

1. Re the trade that seems to have kicked this whole thing off: I have no huge problems with the deal. Yes, I think Edgar gets the better of the deal here, and more power to him: he accepted an offer that was presented to him. I probably would have done the same.

2. Trading draft picks: we should have decided from the very beginning how these work and how the lottery would be set up. Personally, I would have voted not to allow the trading of future draft picks. Again, I move that all non-playoff teams have a shot at the #1 pick only, and after that, picks are awarded to teams based on record, with the worst team receiving the next best pick.

3. Veto rules: sole veto power should not lay with the commissioner. Also, I don't believe that a veto should require a unanimous decision on the part of the other members of the league. Considering that we have 20 teams, and 2 of them would be involved with the trade, I think 8 veto votes should be enough to overturn a trade. A veto should only be used on rare occasions.

Lastly, I really hope everyone stays in the league.

ditto

Did Edgar just quit the league b/c people were questioning the trade he accepted?

I hope not. I apologize if I came across to harsh in my criticism of this trade, but my objections to it still stand.

I want a fair league from the get go.

I will stand by with whatever the Commish feels is the correct thing to do.

I just wanted to say that I too hope everything can be worked out smoothly, and as a result everybody decides to stay.
Now moving on, where's JGOD213, I'm ready to make my pick and go out for lunch...

Ok guys I guess i'm gonna decide that you can't trade first round draft picks until the season is over and everyone knows where they are picking. It looks like people are confused on what value to put on them (some value them way too low while others value them way too high) and it just is turning the league into a ****show.

Also I like ya'll hate/lucky's idea of a veto process so we are going to go with that. 3 people have to bring up within a day of the trade that the trade is unfair, then if they get 6 more votes (remember like lucky said 2 people are involved in the trade) the trade will be vetoed.

Vetos are not just to block cheating moves. They also can save inexperienced players from hurting themselves and the league.- Mk

Mk and I may disagree about the scoring system (all scoring systems are not created equal) but we agree about the above.

If a vote were taken, I'd also vote to veto the trade. I understand Blake's strategy in a general way: plan for next year now. CD5 is doing something similar. (One case falls within the current rules, the other suddenly doesn't, though both are C-O-R-N-Y). But Edgar, the fact is that Blake, even if he's happy with the outcome, got nothing approaching fair value. Your frustration is understandable. But certain trades can hurt the entire league, if only owing to the poor judgment of one of the GMs involved.

Of course, Roy, also raises a great point, (per usual). Roy what's the constitutional precedent for a Fantasy League do over?

That works for me, but will we recieve an e-mail or a PM letting us know that a trade has been put together or will we have to check this thread.  I know that if a trade is accepted in the yahoo leagues an e-mail is sent to each GM and when you check on the "My Team" page it will say "trade pending" and give the details.  will we be using this same system for trade alerts?

Edgar, I understand that you want to make the trade that sparked all of this, and that you are upset becasue you feel like people are voicing their opinions out of jealousy.  However, every league that I have ever been in had a veto option (that's even a part of the standard yahoo! league settings.)  I agree that you have every right to accept the proposed trade, but every other manager in the league should have a right to veto if they want.  I think that we should be able to trade for next years picks, but all trades should be subject to a league veto.  I have had many of my trades vetoed in previous, and it is frustrating, but it's just the way that fantasy works.  Hell, I just was proposed a trade where I gave up Eli Manning and Adrain Petrerson for Tom Brady.  I obviously accepted the trade, but the league voted it down.  I was very PO'd, but there was nothing that I could do b/c that's the way most fantasy leagues work.

As a sidenote, I would like to maybe move up and get another pick in this round, so send me an offer if you're interested.

o.k. I will put it as transparent as it can be

If ure going to say in an arbitrary manner thaat this trade is veto, How about if it was just my next years 1st only for a 9th, probably then u all may be laughing at me and saying i was robbed, but never veto the trade
again

ARBITRARY

I really dont care as im just about leaving the league im just making u clear this is Stupid, cause even the veto rules were never posted before.

Now. If that is the desition I recomend u undo all trades made until now, draft all players with ur picks, the do the negociation when the draft is over. Its the only way everybody agrees with ur trades, and most likely then people will disagree too.

I recomend u ask a mod to undo the trade in page one too.

Its unconstitutional to undo all the trades, because I got Lebron James.

Every fantasy league I've ever been in has had some sort of veto protocol. I would say that some sort of veto procedure is implicit in fantasy leagues. What's not implicit is how the veto process works; that needs to be worked out by the members of the league. I think everyone here would agree that from the very beginning, if there had been a controversial trade, someone would have raised the issue of the veto earlier. It's only now become an issue.

Edgar, If I understand you correctly, your issue is that your trade has somehow been deemed unacceptable and vetoed without any sort of transparent process, but by some sort of arbitrary ruling. If that's the focus of your complaint, I can't say I blame you. So, if we agreed as a league on a veto process, and then enough members of the league agreed to veto the trade through that process, would that be acceptable?
