Victor Wembanyama played 17 minutes in the first half of the Spurs/Mavericks game. His stat line: 29pts/15rebs/5blks/2ast/2stls. Absolutely ridiculous.

Wemby finished the game playing 34 mins. His stat line: 54pts/24rebs/8blks. Wow

Dang.  If Dallas had kept it competitive, Wemby could have easily finished with 60/30/10.

Utah now have 1 win 6 losses. I thought they would be challenging for .500 this season.

Their lineup looks poor since Jaren Jackson Jr got injured. Darryn Peterson hasn't delivered so far. Ace Bailey has never delivered. So they are getting nothing out of their 2 starting wings. Jaxson Hayes is starting at center while Nurkic is injured but even Nurkic being there instead doesn't change the team that much.

Bench isn't showing much. It is still a two man team with Keyonte George and Lauri Markkanen like it was last season when they won only 22 games and lost 60 games. And Markkanen has started badly as well.

Disappointing. Looks like another long season for Utah.
I dont think Keyonte George is all that good either honestly. If you look at box scores their young talent is supposedly impressive but I dont see it with nearly any of their players.

Peterson is by far their most promising player, and I do think he'll pan out. But I dont think Ainge has as much of a wealth of talent there as some people think.

Keyonte George stat line tonight: 39pts/9ast/4stls/2rebs/1blk. 14-26 from the field.

Darryn Peterson stat line tonight: 7pts/7ast/2rebs. 2-8 from the field.
Who would you rather have?

Keyonte George. He is a sure thing. That?s why the Jazz just paid him. We don?t know what D. Peterson will be.
Id take Peterson. Hes more promising. Thats why the Jazz spent the #2 pick on him over Cam Boozer and Caleb Wilson.

George is like the worst defender in the NBA. That alone stops me from buying in.

I completely agree.

It is interesting though, how Ainge & the Jazz recent moves will be viewed long term. It is obvious that Danny is rarely afraid of making unpopular decisions.

If Ainge had gone down the more conservative path, he could have kept Walker Kessler & drafted Boozer, as his dad works for the Jazz and was a former player. Ainge could have then just flipped Jackson Jr & Markkanen for more assets.

George
Green
Bailey
Boozer
Kessler

Luka Doncic is the first player since Michael Jordan in 1988 to score 300+ points through his first eight games of the season. Doncic has scored 308 total points while shooting 49.5% from the field and 43.1% from three-point range.

Hard to argue with the haul they got for Kessler. But I really haven't liked a lot of his moves.

Theyve been fine from a high level "talent acquisition" perspective but the actual team hes building doesnt seem to make much sense and I dont love the players hes invested in (JJJ, Paterson, George)

Now you are just making stuff up. I?m not saying Keyonte is a great defender, but he is no where near the worst.

Being selected #2 overall does not guarantee that Peterson will be a great player. See Alex Sarr,  Jalen Green, James Wiseman, etc .

Defensive rating isn't the be all end and it's not the metric I would have chosen here but just because it's the source you chose for exculpatory evidence...

His drtg was actually worse in 2026 as well.

^hes genuinely 0th percentile in like half the defensive categories.

Orlando getting thirty pieced by Phoenix.

I did not see their demise coming. A year ago I had them pegged as a 50 win team. They won 47 games 3 years ago. Had some injury problems 2 years ago and fell to 41 wins. Added Desmond Bane. Two young star forwards in Banchero and F Wagner. What appeared to be an elite young defensive guard in Suggs. Some good role players around them. They should have become a 50 win squad. Nope.

And they look even worse again this year.

Such a disappointing team.

The Heat defense is bad. Even the Clippers game they eeked out a few nights ago in OT they survived. That was the story, otherwise they had a horrid 2nd quarter and really were lucky Rui missed a FT late in regulation too. A 1-6 Clippers team. Then give up 120 to Golden State and there are clips online where Giannis looks lost or isn't really even trying on defense either.

Their players are always injured. Banchero, Wagner, Suggs.. it?s rare that they are all healthy at the same time.

Wow. Doc just went scorched earth on Giannis.  :-X

Former Milwaukee Bucks coach Doc Rivers said Giannis Antetokounmpo kept "yo-yoing" by not publicly requesting a trade before ultimately being dealt to the Miami Heat this summer.

"Giannis wanted out, but he was a Buck. And he didn't want to be the bad guy," Rivers told "The Bill Simmons Podcast" in an episode posted Thursday. "He wanted [GM Jon Horst and owner Wes Edens] and those guys to say, 'We're trading you,' instead of him asking for a trade. To me, that was the game that was being played."

The 2025-26 season for the Bucks was largely overshadowed by the question of Antetokounmpo's future with the franchise he led to the 2021 NBA championship. Throughout the season, Antetokounmpo told multiple outlets, including ESPN, that he was committed to the Bucks and would "never" demand a trade.

"Giannis needed to just give himself to the team, not to anyone else," Rivers said.

He also addressed Antetokounmpo's style of play as a unique problem.

"I liked Giannis a lot. I liked him more as a dude," Rivers told Simmons. "He's interesting. He's not easy. He's not easy because he plays at this crazy downhill pace. He's really a difficult guy. ... He has this great passing ability, but he doesn't necessarily have this super IQ at the same time. It's really a strange thing, and he really has one way: downhill, force, force. Every play, he wants to force it."

"I wish he learned how to execute better," Rivers added. "He's one of those guys ... that have never needed to execute because they can do it on their own. But that doesn't help the team. And I told Giannis this, the thing he needs to still learn is the value of execution. How important it is when you're in practice and shootarounds to lock in on execution. And now he has a coach [Erik Spoelstra] who is as good as there is in execution."

Makes no sense to me either.

If you want to start the 3 ball-handlers, send to Devin Vassell to the bench. Keep Julian Champagnie in the starting lineup. Or maybe T Harris when he returns. Someone with a bit more size and length to help SAS matchup to other team's bigger forwards.
