Question - are we mad because JB was traded, or are we mad because we got PG13 and only 2 picks in return, when 2 weeks ago we were thinking we might get Giannis at least?  Like if somehow PG0 contributes, maybe not scoring 28ppg but adds to winning and we keep winning, is all forgiven? Or nothing will heal this wound?
In my opinion, nothing short of a championship heals this wound.  They don?t have to win it all next year, but if and when they ever win again, all will be okay.

Quoting you just as an example, not trying to fixate on you specifically. So apologies in advance if it comes across as pointed.

Some seem to think the Jays could still win a title in this new CBA climate. Others did not.

If you think the Jays could still win a title this definitely stings a lot more.

I believe

(1) BOS could have won another title with JB & JT

(2) BOS can still win another title after this trade. Not immediately but they do have a well-filled cupboard of trade assets now that will allow them to get another star player to pair with JT.

When that happens, likely next summer (12 months) or the subsequent trade deadline (18 months), BOS will be back playing for Championships again for the remainder of JT's best years.

-------------

... so I don't think much has changed.

The chances of winning another title are fairly similar with or without this Jaylen Brown trade. The future is still excellent for BOS. Times are good even though we have taken a short term step back for next season.

I think your last sentence sums it up for me.  The more I look at team 26-27, the more it looks barely different than it would have been if we kept JB this year.  As the dust is settling, and it definitely is, the bottom line is consensus that Brad took such a shockingly small return for a player of JBs caliber/age -- along with disbelief that there were no better offers.  But when considering how the PG13 contract plays out, and considering there is some draft capital gained, the reality of where the team lands becomes, at least potentially, a little less harsh.

Also... I know that 2nd round picks aren't anything to jump for joy about, but from the looks of the two picks they received I think low 30's is a strong possibility for both.  That gives them SOME value - not all that much different than a late 20's.   Wish it was 3 or 4 firsts, but not to be.

Paul George is the new Theo Ratliff.

Theo Ratliff being the expiring contract we needed to match salaries to get Kevin Garnett. That is what Paul George will be to us in 12-18 months time. And the picks we got from Philly (as well as our own) are the young assets we needed to put around Theo Ratliff to get that superstar in KG.

Boston's Jaylen Brown trade return of Paul George, two first-round picks, and two second-round picks left numerous NBA executives around the league bewildered.

"They couldn't have gotten better than that?" one neutral observing executive whose team was not in the Brown sweepstakes told HoopsHype.

Many around the league were surprised George, 36, was the best player Boston could land for a 29-year-old Brown who was sixth in the NBA MVP voting this past season. George, a nine-time All-Star in his 16-year career, hasn't been an All-Star the past two seasons since joining the 76ers in free agency. He's been limited to 78 combined games the past two seasons and is owed $110.72 million over the next two seasons, including his player option for the 2027-28 season.

"I can't believe they did that," one executive whose team was consistently monitoring Brown's availability said.

"I've been sitting here thinking about it all day," an executive whose team made an offer to land Brown also told HoopsHype late Monday night.

Around midseason, I expect a lot of GMs will be looking back on this and regretting they didn't go harder after Jaylen Brown. That their teams aren't good enough to win as is and JB could have been the missing the piece. That they blew this opportunity.

Those executive responses remind me of the Pau Gasol trade. The whole lead was flummoxed that Memphis traded away Pau for so little in return. And in that case, did not even openly put him on the market despite the poor offer they had. Although that one worked out well for Memphis in the end. I think this one will work out well for Boston too.
