So I don't want to trade for Giannis, but am I tripping. I'm reading a bunch of posts on social media acting like Herro is more valuable and worth more in a trade than Jaylen Brown? I'd love for someone to explain that to me. Even factoring in contract and age, I do not consider Herro to even be a Top-50 player in the NBA currently.

People are acting like the Heat offer is equal if not better than if the Celtics + a potential 3rd team offer Jaylen + picks. Again, I don't see it at all.
You need to follow better social media, haha.

Maybe it is just my algorithm, but I am on Twitter and these social media apps often and this is what I am seeing lol. Some of this might be ESPN propaganda to get Giannis to Miami

The Celtics have shown interest in Rudy Gobert, per @JakeLFischer

?In reference to Minnesota's interest in White, which The Athletic's Sam Amick first reported Friday morning, trading him for Rudy Gobert would represent a clear salary match. Sources say that Boston, furthermore, has inquired about Gobert before ... most recently at February's trade deadline. Now I don't think that the Wolves are actively shopping Gobert, either way, but Minnesota is said to be as exploratory and open-minded as Boston when it comes to shaking up the roster around the team's clear alpha (Edwards).?

I'd bet at the deadline it was for Simons and picks.

I would bet that no trade discussions were actually had.

If Minnesota trades away Gobert, they aren't a title contender anymore.

He is the guy that holds together their entire defense. Their interior defense falls apart whenever he is not on the floor. Randle and Naz Reid cannot replace him.

That team falls apart without Gobert.

Marc Stein on Bucks GM's demands

Quote
Several sources have conveyed that Milwaukee GM Jon Horst has established especially ambitious asking prices in Giannis talks. The word that keeps coming back: "Unrealistic."

The Bucks naturally want as much as they can if they're parting with their Face of the Franchise, so what constitutes unrealistic? Sources say Milwaukee has been asking teams for returns that would leave any club acquiring Antetokounmpo too barren to contend for a championship.

They should have traded him at the deadline then. That way the receiving team would have had two postseason runs with Giannis and maybe a better chance at convincing him to stay.

Now that he is basically an expiring, he can choose where he wants to go and that greatly limits their options (reportedly only Miami and Boston so far). So they are basically looking at Miami's package or whatever they can get for Jaylen Brown.

On Walker Kessler,

He played only 5 games last year before having a season ending injury. In those 5 games, he started shooting 3s. Apparently he had been working on it in the summer.

He shot only 56 threes in his first 3 seasons (196 games) and made only 20% of them. In his little 5 game sample, he took 8 threes for 1.7 threes attempted per game. He made 6 of the 8 but I am more interested that he was popping out and looking to take them. Making an effort to take 3s. Clearly something he had worked on in the summer. To become more well rounded offensively.

I am reading some Jazz fans who feel he has some potential as a passer too that was under-utilized in Utah. I don't know.

There is a scenario where he was ready for a breakout season last year but got hurt ... and could break out next year after he gets his big new deal and actually looks very good value at price point.

------------

I am thinking of Jalen Duren. Kessler, like Duren, is already one of the best finishers in the league around the basket among rim running centers. Kessler is already a better defender then Duren. He is comparable rebounder at Duren.

Kessler just doesn't play on a team as talented as DET or with an individual teammate as talented as Cade Cunningham.

If you had those 2 guys switch teams, I am not sure you would see much difference in team performance.

Duren is looking at $40+mil.
Kessler is asking for somewhere north of $30mil.

Not surprising.  I am not sure what sources he has, probably agents, and the agents may not know.  The MIA offer leaked out, but MIL and BOS have been pretty air tight through this.

MIL has painted themselves into a corner.  Everyone knows Giannis wants out, and that he is applying his leverage through his ability to extend or not with the potential new team.  Plus coming off a season where MIL decided to sit him for most of the season.  They did not create a seller's market for themselves.  It is going to be tough to get a King's ransom deal for him.

But what does MIL do?  Dragging this out isn't going to change anything.  I don't know how they can pivot and now say they will build around Giannis again.  The draft is Tuesday.  I am guessing this drags out.  BOS is going to have to have a line (date) where they say no more waiting.  If no deal by XXX date, BOS has to move on and build the team around Tatum and Brown.  No more looking for 3rd teams, no more haggling over adding a pick or whatever.

If Milwaukee wants another lottery pick this Draft (Miami's #13), then they have to do the Giannis trade before then. Otherwise, they risk losing out on an asset like that and also, I think the level of interest and quality of offers from other teams will dwindle too. Most teams including Boston and Miami probably have Free Agency plans and other plans in place as well, and I doubt they'd want the Giannis situation lingering and potentially missing out on other things because of the Giannis situation. And Giannis is a FA after next season, a team like Miami can just wait and sign him outright if they wish to then.

I don't think the Bucks have much leverage. Sure, they could wait it out, but at what risk? Giannis could just say he doesn't want to play for them next season and sit out for a while. Meanwhile Miami could say, "whatever" and just wait until next summer. MIL won't extend Giannis either if Giannis says he wants to go elsewhere.
