Memphis Grizzlies rookie guard Jaylen Wells was removed from the court on a stretcher Tuesday night after a frightening collision with Charlotte's K.J. Simpson left him with an apparent head injury.
The incident occurred when Wells, completing a fastbreak dunk on an outlet pass from Ja Morant, was undercut by Simpson, causing Wells to lose balance and slam his head on the court.
Medical staff attended to Wells for approximately eight minutes before immobilizing his head and transferring him to a stretcher. The game was delayed for 23 minutes total, including warmup time for both teams following the incident.
Wells' agent, Aman Dhesi, told ESPN's Shams Charania that Wells is "awake, alert and moving his extremities."
Wells also sustained a broken wrist.
Broken wrist so he will be out for the playoffs.
Big loss for Memphis. He is their only true SF on their roster. Now they got to play smaller SGs (Vince Williams Jr, Konchar), the no-defense Luke Kennard, or the no-offense Lamar Stevens.
Another blow for Grizzly playoff hopes.

I just watched a replay of the foul. Oh my god, that was a terrible foul. Wells was on a breakaway dunk way ahead of everyone. KJ Simpson was trailing the play. Decides to foul him anyway, ends up hitting hard in the back, but Wells had already elevated so high that KJ Simpson ends up undercutting him in mid-air. With Wells obviously losing all mid-air balance ands up falling hard on his back.
There was no attempt on the ball. It was a terrible foul.
