Memphis Grizzlies rookie guard Jaylen Wells was removed from the court on a stretcher Tuesday night after a frightening collision with Charlotte's K.J. Simpson left him with an apparent head injury.

The incident occurred when Wells, completing a fastbreak dunk on an outlet pass from Ja Morant, was undercut by Simpson, causing Wells to lose balance and slam his head on the court.

Medical staff attended to Wells for approximately eight minutes before immobilizing his head and transferring him to a stretcher. The game was delayed for 23 minutes total, including warmup time for both teams following the incident.

Wells' agent, Aman Dhesi, told ESPN's Shams Charania that Wells is "awake, alert and moving his extremities."

Wells also sustained a broken wrist.

Broken wrist so he will be out for the playoffs.

Big loss for Memphis. He is their only true SF on their roster. Now they got to play smaller SGs (Vince Williams Jr, Konchar), the no-defense Luke Kennard, or the no-offense Lamar Stevens.

Another blow for Grizzly playoff hopes.

-----------------------

I just watched a replay of the foul. Oh my god, that was a terrible foul. Wells was on a breakaway dunk way ahead of everyone. KJ Simpson was trailing the play. Decides to foul him anyway, ends up hitting hard in the back, but Wells had already elevated so high that KJ Simpson ends up undercutting him in mid-air. With Wells obviously losing all mid-air balance ands up falling hard on his back.

There was no attempt on the ball. It was a terrible foul.

Lakers salivating for a matchup against OKC. The Thunder is done for if they meet in the playoffs. Both games the Thunder struggle against them at OKC

Not accurate.

If Sparz is saying it, then you know to hammer OKC to win the series.

The Thunder are better than last year (mostly because of Hartenstein) but I can't see Luka and LeBron losing to these corny dudes in the postseason. If SGA isn't living at the FT line and they're not running up transition points, their offense will go on long droughts like we saw in that 3rd quarter.

Interesting take on these LAL vs OKC games.

Jason Timpf talks a lot about OKC's reliance on fastbreak points and how that typically doesn't translate well to the post-season. At least not in recent years. That their halfcourt offense is not good enough. I forget the stats. Maybe the 10-15th best range for halfcourt offense points per possession.

This graphic is from a twitter post = interesting stats on the performances of the Lakers Big 3 since Luka joined the team.

That Luka +/- is huge compared to LeBron. Especially since Luka has not been shooting the ball well during this period.

Good read on the Luka trade two months later

https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/44588385/luka-doncic-adapting-trade-dallas-mavericks-los-angeles-lakers

This part in particular is interesting. A bit of FAFO towards Mavs ownership.

Quote
It's a decision, team sources told ESPN, that probably will cost the franchise nine figures over the next several years, as the Mavs are projected to lose dozens of millions in revenue this season due to dwindling crowds, plummeting merchandise sales and sponsors severing ties with the franchise in the wake of the trade. So many fans canceled season tickets in the days after the trade that the Mavs attempted to generate some goodwill by offering limited refunds.

The franchise plans to play a tribute video for Doncic, sources said, providing fans in the arena a final opportunity to savor all of his accomplishments in a Mavs uniform -- and mourn not getting more. Team sources told ESPN that the Mavs had also lined up lucrative sponsorship deals for Wednesday's game, with multiple companies that Doncic endorses, but those deals fell apart after Doncic's camp declined to give its blessing, pointedly noting that he now plays for the Lakers.

Crazy Dallas lineup. No PG. No ball-handlers.

G: Klay Thompson
F: Naji Marshall
F: PJ Washington
C: Anthony Davis
C: Derrick Lively II

Naji Marshall brought the ball up on the 1st possession.

25pts now for Luka. Just hit his 5th three pointer.

Haha, more "Fire Nico" chants with the Mavs at the FT line.

Mike Breen keeps defending Nico. That is at least the 3rd time he has done this in the 1st half. Saying the same things over and over. RJ and Doris Burke have been defending Nico too. Anytime the crowd starts going anti-Nico, the commentators start defending him.
