Drake Maye's average time to throw this preseason (2.79 seconds) was the same as his final season at UNC. That would be the 17th-fastest in the NFL between Patrick Mahomes (2.78) and Daniel Jones (2.80)

Jacoby Brissett's 2.92-second average time to throw is 10th-slowest

Not worth much.  Pretty useless stat.

Especially when talking about "17th fastest" and "10th slowest" like they aren't just about the same thing. I doubt that much more than 30 QBs qualify for this stat (in the regular season). If it was 30 players (it's probably a few more), that's 17th vs 21st fastest.
I'm bitter.

So Maye was allowed to play in garbage time vs the Jets, then wasn?t the following week vs the Niners which was over by halftime. Didn?t want to start him against a struggling Miami team and are now throwing him out there against the 4-1 Texans.  ???

I would say as a coach, and I know the organization feels this way, we?re trying to win every game. At the time, we thought Jacoby would give us the best opportunity to go out there and win games, Mayo said. I think now Drake gives us the best chance to win now and going forward.

He?s been developing, he?s been getting better every single week. As I said before, at the end of training camp, he actually was trending at a very high rate and that has continued through the early part of the season.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Mayo probably got the script from Kraft and told him to start Maye immediately because of Pepper's incident

This "time to throw" stuff doesn't mean much anyways because the receivers aren't open. I've been watching a lot of non-Pats football the last couple years, and it's remarkable how much better the receivers are on other teams. Our guys look like they're running in mud in comparison.

And defenses are never really fooled by what we do. On the rare occasion they do get caught off guard they recover and make a quick tackle because our guys are poor in space, and they often don't even catch the ball cleanly. And we run garbage routes.

Don't get me wrong,  Brissett's limitations do exacerbate these problems. But even Patrick Mahomes would have trouble getting anything out of these stiffs. We saw how badly the offense struggled in Brady's final year here. And the talent is worse now.

Kraft and Mayo are dumping Drake into a very dangerous situation.

I think it is hard to know how good or bad our receivers are.  Juju Smith-Schuster went off for 7 catches and 130 yards for KC Chiefs.  Somehow he got open when he never seemed to do anything on the Pats.

Pats receivers are young, they are probably keeping the routes and reads pretty rudimentary for them but I think if you put Douglas (for example) on KC, he would catch passes just fine.  Boutte got 40 snaps last week.  I am glad to see that.  I think he is definitely better than Thornton.  Bourne is back now too.  I think Bourne, Polk, Douglas, Boutte is a decent enough receiver group, probably better right now than KC's receiver group.

You look at KC and they have the QB, the O-line, and the scheme and a receiver like Juju Smith-Schuster can make plays in that context.  The Pats have on QB, no O-line, and no scheme.  I doubt even Jerry Rice and Randy Moss could make plays on this team.  Again, maybe these Pats receivers aren't that good, it is just hard to know in this context.

And JuJu has 17 yards in KC's other 4 games. He's played in 45% of their snaps. He's a bum. But every dog has his day.

Edit: I do think some of our guys could have success elsewhere. And the jury is still out on some of the younger players. But, as of this moment,  none of these guys generate the gravity of a true star receiver. Not even close. We can't create any matchup problems.

Well, with Rice out now, Juju is going to have more of a substantial role in the offense. Someone has to step up and Juju did this past game.  Worthy might end up being the stud by the end of the season but I think you'll see some decent numbers out of Juju if he remains healthy.

I was feeling all good about the fact I?m not a Jets fan and then my stupid ass team, who didn?t start Drake Maye last week against the Dolphins who suck, Bill Simmons started saying in a video he posted on Tuesday. It would have been the perfect spot to play him even if the offensive line is terrible, at least you?re getting his feet wet against probably the other worst team in the league, except for Carolina.

The New Englander continued his rant while walking down a New York City sidewalk.

You wait a week, oh it turns out that Jacoby Brissett is still terrible, he said. Wow, we had no evidence of that. And then a week later, guess what they do? They start Drake Maye. Against Houston?s defense, which is one of the top five or six scariest defenses and they can really rush the passer. They?re just putting this guy now in a terrible position because this is the dumbest, most incompetent front office group we?ve had since [former owner] Victor Kiam when I was in college. Go Pats.

Kraft without Brady can do that to you. Incompetent front office and coaching staff.

If the above is true it makes me feel all the more lucky to have had the best 20 years of football fandom in the history of the league.  Somehow, with BB and Brady, they managed to get all the supporting parts they needed for 6 championships and 9 SB appearances.  Thats an unbelievable and unprecedented feat even with a competent organization.  So if they?re all incompetent and dysfunctional I?m glad to have had what we had because we certainly could have been any number of miserably performing teams throughout that run.   Unlikely to strike gold, perfect storm, again, but I?ll keep hoping for now.

Will Drake make it all the way through this game?

I was excited to watch.  Big letdown so far. Maye showed his legs on the pats only first down. And made a nice tackle on his interception.
So far the MVP for the pats is the weather which caused 2 incompletions and a missed FG.

Boy, this roster is an embarrassment. The o-line is still awful. Receivers still can't get open. Maye made a big mistake overthrowing Douglas, but it doesn't help that Douglas had a guy right up on his shoulder.

The offensive talent is minor-league level. And the defense has been terrible today,  despite that lucky INT just now.

Tremendous throw by Maye on that TD. This is why we drafted him. Now we just need to keep him upright.
