A new story is written every season. Mazzulla welcomes whatever challenges this new one brings. I wish we started tomorrow I hope it?s even 10 times harder than it was last year, he said. People are going to say the target?s on our back, but I hope it?s right in our forehead, in between our eyes. I hope I can see the red dot. via Boston Sports Journal

Mazzulla was asked by Karalis about how stars like Tatum and Brown can draw on those slights (from the Olympics) for motivation just a few months removed from seemingly reaching the NBA summit as champions.

They?re two competitors and they are who they are, Mazzulla said. They?re two great, great players. So I?m not going to try to figure out how they?re going to go about it. If they want to take revenge on that particular game, that?s great for them. Like I said, my number one job is to; I gotta grow as a coach, I gotta get better so that I can get them better and help them get better, and be a catalyst for growth.

Revenge is healthy and it?s not at the same time. I think just like anything else you can have a little bit of it, but I think it?s a short-term thing, and when that runs out what are you gonna rely on?

Mazzulla was asked by Karalis about why the animal kingdom stands as a reliable analogy to turn to when trying to instill principles into his team.

The animal kingdom is the most pure form of hierarchy and role definition that there is. Everybody plays their role. If you step outside of it, you get killed, Mazzulla said. If you try to do something with a sense of pride or arrogance, you?d probably get killed.

If you stay within the lines, you survive for as long as you can until you don?t anymore. I just think that?s the closest thing to hierarchy, role definition, competition, commitment, and all those things that go into success and survival.  And yes, Mazzulla is a massive fan of killer whales.

To me, the killer whale [is] obviously the most forceful animal in nature, Mazzulla said. But they have the humility. They very rarely attack their prey by themselves. And so you have this concept of I know I could kill you by myself, but I?m not going to do it unless I have my pod with me. They only attack in three and four so, like, there?s a huge humility aspect to that.

Saw a video of Joe taking pictures with kids on a stage and one of the kid was donning a #11 Celtics jersey. He had to make sure and check the back of the jersey to ensure it's not a Cryrie jersey he was wearing  ;D

But Pritchard got some fans, suhweet!

Lonnie Walker signed an Exhibit 10 contract, a non-guaranteed training camp deal that provides him a bonus of up to about $78,000 if he is waived and then signs a G League contract with the Maine Celtics. via New York Times

Jayson Tatum?s biggest prediction came after Jimmy Fallon asked which two teams would be in the 2025 NBA Finals. Tatum said he?s predicting a rematch of the 2024 championship series in which the Celtics defeated the Dallas Mavericks. It?s gonna be a rematch. We?re gonna play Dallas again, Tatum said. via nbcsportsboston.com

Dallas definitely improved with the addition of Klay.

Klay is a nice addition for them, that is true.  Not sure if he is still a 20+ scorer with 40%+ from 3 that he has been for most of his career.  I think there is some decline, but have to see how he adjusts to the new team.  I still think there are better teams in the west, at least on paper.  OKC, DEN, even MIN are all expected to be good and there is always a surprise team or 2.  The Odds have OKC the favorite at +320 and then DAL, DEN, and MIN all tied at +400, so pretty much up for grabs.  The field vs DAL would have the edge, meaning much more likely based on these odds that it is some one other than DAL.

Happened to notice that Hoopshype has Klay rated the 100th best player in the league, worse than Colin Sexton or RJ Barrett.  I don't think anyone would be concerned about Colin Sexton on the Mavs.

For the Celtics:

  #6  Tatum
#18  Brown
#44  Porzingis
#50  White
#54  Holiday

I have no idea how they rank the players, there was no process or criteria indicated, but I have Porzingis rated way higher than #44.  He is probably marked down for durability, which is fair, but this seems like too much of a correction.

To put this into some perspective, I try to consider that an "average" NBA team would have the 15th best player as their #1, the 45th best player as their #2, 75th best player as their #3, and so on.  This is based on the hypothetical case were all players were distributed exactly evenly based on their ranking.  So 1-30 are all the best players on their teams.  All our starters are or nearly are a #2 on an average or median team level if the players were distributed in this way (assumes this median team has player 15, 45, 75, 105, and 135).  Not sure this context clarifies anything but we have a really good top 5 group of players.

C's in 5 (again)  :)

Klay can't defend at a high level anymore. So you have Luka, Kyrie, and Klay as 3 subpar defenders in your starting lineup. They can score.

Klay can score, but he needs to be the 3 ball shooter stuck in the corner waiting for defenses to collapse on Luka or Kyrie.   The Celtics are excellent point of attack defenders, we have guys who can defend Luka (Brown) and Kyrie (Jru) that don't need help.  That limits the effectiveness of Klay in a series against the C's.  Like others have stated, Klay doesn't have me up in the middle of the night worried about him.

False. It will be Celtics vs Wolves NBA Finals.

And Boston Celtics win Banner 19 next June.
