Celtics legend Bob Cousy turned 96 Friday and had a lot to say about US Olympic men?s basketball coach Steve Kerr not playing Jayson Tatum in Thursday?s critical 95-91 semifinal victory over Serbia in Paris. This isn?t just a snub, Cousy said from his Worcester home Friday morning. This is an embarrassment for that poor kid all over the [expletive] world. The Olympics have gotten that big. Everyone?s going to think that there?s something wrong with this kid.

Tatum is on the cover of Sports Illustrated this month. Any experts that I?ve read lately have chosen him in the top five, and sometimes No. 1 in the [expletive] world. Now Kerr is telling the world that he doesn?t agree. In a 40-minute game, if you can?t find five minutes to play somebody on the team without hurting yourself? When Kerr did it last week, he was in no danger of losing the game, but in this case they got down by 17 points and he?s got to worry about losing the game. And then to not let Tatum get off the bench? To me, there?s got to be some kind of bias that he?s got against the Celtics. He?s not alone there.

I don?t know Steve Kerr, and everything I?ve ever heard about him has been positive. But there?s such a difference between playing a guy for a few minutes as opposed to not playing him at all. And now he has doubled down on it. via Boston Globe

John Henry seriously considering about bidding for the Boston Celtics franchise organization.

We are done for if he gets his hands on the organization.

Honestly I'd be fine with that. He's brought 4 titles to Boston and has a track record of spending.

And despite recent criticisms of cheapness by Henry and the Sox they once again are showing they know 100x more about team building than the fans. They stuck to their guns and focused on developing young players and it's paid off. We'll likely be in the hunt for another title in a couple years once this core matures a bit.

Henry also has the advantage of partially owning NESN. Once the current local TV deal expires in 2038 he can move games over to his own network. In the meanwhile he'd also own 20% of NBC Spirts Boston, the rival network.

So it'd be a coup either way.

Alright. Time for the Olympians to get some deserved rest and focus on Banner 19.

So in effect Lebron becomes part owner of the Celtics? Is an active player allowed to own an NBA team? Then again maybe he?d be retired by the time the deal is finalized. Weird times.

Justin Turpin: Sam Hauser on signing an extension with the #Celtics. Pretty special that they gave me an opportunity early on when nobody else did and I just tried to run with it. They believed in me, and I?m just glad I can be here and be with this team and have another chance to win it all.

Looking on Ticketmaster now, and the few seats still available from the Celtics for the opener (ring night, banner night) are going for >$1,000. That's not resale prices--that's what the Celtics are selling tickets for.

Games to look forward to:
11/6 home vs GSW
1/20 at GSW
1/23 at Lakers
1/25 at Mavericks
2/6 vs Mavericks
3/8 home vs Lakers

Man that January stretch is gonna be brutal. You got at Minnesota, at OKC, at Denver and Sacramento. Then you go on a west coast trip on MLK week with a visit to San Francisco, then to LA for both teams (we get the second b2b night at Lakers, yikes), then fly to Dallas for that Saturday.

The good news is, I don't really care about the regular season in the sense that even if we hit a bit of a swoon, whatever. I'm sure there'll be doom and gloom but not from me. All that really matters is health going into the playoffs. I'm pretty confident we're guaranteed a Top-3 seed in the East anyways.

January could be a good test for the team though, and Porzingis should be back by then hopefully.

What a strange B2B, both games in Charlotte.

I guess this qualifies under this topic heading.  I don't recall seeing it mentioned.

Although Blake Griffin (apparently) didn't want to come back for the championship run last season, it seems that he kept up with some of the team:

Good interesting game for banner night. But 1000 is insane.

It won't stay there. I can't believe how much the Celtics are pricing these tickets for. It's rare that resale tickets are trading for significantly less than tickets directly from the team.
