This is where things stand in my mind:

Holiday               Pritchard              Springer
White                 Hauser                 Scheierman
Brown                [   Vet?   ]             Walsh
Tatum                Horford                 [      ?     ]
Porzingis            Kornet                  Queta

2-way:  [Watson?], [Davison?], [      ?    ]

We have 13 signed and no one officially yet on 2-way deals.  As it stands, Kornet will start the season as the 2nd team 5/C and Horford the 2nd team 4/PF.  Horford will probably start though.  What the priority should be changes if you consider Porzingis in or out.  The roster with Porzingis injured cries out for a 2nd team PF but as soon as Porzingis is back, that player becomes the 3rd team PF and probably hardly plays (certainly hardly plays in the playoffs), unless they are better than Kornet.

If you look at the roster with Porzingis playing, which you hope is the case for most of the season and the playoffs, then the biggest hole to me is a 2nd team wing/swing forward type.

The problem for me is if you target a big, it has to be someone that would be better than Kornet or Queta or what is the point.  We may not be able to even get Tillman with a min contract (all we can offer).  Drummond got $10M (about $5M per season).  Are Saric or Theis gettable for min contracts?  Maybe.  But are they any better than Kornet?  So they come in and eat some minutes for a couple of months and then sit on the bench the rest of the season/playoffs?  Is that really worth it for what it would cost in tax penalties?

I understand that we can do both, get the wing/swing and the PF/Big and that is what the Celtics should try to do.  I just have my doubts that the big we get with a min contract is going to do much.

I don?t think we?re limited to vet min when it comes to Tillman. He was acquired via trade, so we own his Bird rights. The problem is the overall tax and him being unrestricted free agent, so we can?t wait for him to sign an offer and match it.

There is a separate Thread for the owners selling (wow), so I will get back to the few remaining roster questions.  I agree and understand that the Celtics can pay Tillman more than a min contract, but will they?  I am not sure they will necessarily have to go as high as $5M, but they might.  And once Porzingis is back, how much will Tillman get to play?  He might not even crack the 10 man rotation if he can't beat out Kornet.  He didn't beat out Kornet last season until Kornet was injured in the playoffs.

With Orlando signing Caldwell-Pope, I wonder if Ingles would be in play for a min contract.  He could be a good fit for that 2nd team wing/swing slot.  He is listed at 6 ft - 9 in so could play some PF and some wing, just what we need.

Derrick White to Charles Barkley - "This hairline" as he points to his head with a finger that has a championship ring on it.

If I understand this correctly, Davison was not extended a qualifying offer but Drew Peterson was.  So unless Peterson gets offered something better than a 2-way, it seems the Celtics intend to bring him back.  And this also seems to imply that Davison is not coming back.

I would not overread into Davison not being extended a QO.  Peterson?s qualifying offer could be for a 2-way deal, while a QO to Davison would, by rule, need to be a fully guaranteed NBA deal for 1 year.  Davison is still eligible to re-sign as a 2-way player with Boston for one more season, but he could not do that through the RFA process.  He will certainly look around as is his right, but I think the Celtics will bring him back if he doesn?t get an NBA deal from someone else.

Stein?  Very unlikely to happen then.

It would be a bizarre scenario.  He wants $9 million from Minnesota, but would quickly take the VM from the Celts?  I hope it's true, but I'm skeptical.

2nd apron question.

The rule says "second apron teams will also be prohibited from combining multiple players salaries into trades as well. Phoenix, as a specific example, could not trade both Jusuf Nurkić and Nassir Little for one player making $24.8 million."

Is that just for the outgoing, or the incoming players too?

So Phoenix and Boston can't combine multiple players in the outgoing portion of a trade.  But could they send out one player and bring back multiple players from the other team?

And as long as the Celtics send out less in salary, than what's incoming, as long as the incoming aggregate salaries don't exceed 125% plus $100,000?

Is that correct?

Yes.  We can do a 1-for-2, but not a 2-for-1.

I?m also skeptical, but Minnesota still could have low-balled him enough to where he?d want to walk.  They?re far into the tax if I?ve read the numbers correctly, with a higher tax bill than us, so they might have countered with far less than $9 million.

Yes.  We can do a 1-for-2, but not a 2-for-1.

But the trick is if Phoenix also can only do a 1-for-2, can we trade?  Or are second apron teams barred from trading with each other unless the salaries line up perfectly?
