Felt Brown edged out Tatum just slightly. Tatum only out played Brown one game (game 5). Game 4 everyone was bad so I throw that game out.

Either were deserving.

If you?re upset about anything right now, you?re really missing the forest from the trees. The Celtics just won the freakin? title.

But did they win it the right way?

Taking five whole games to beat this Mavs team doesn't bode well for the next round....

+1   Both were deserving.   I bet the voting was really close.   We don't win the title without both, or really without Jrue, DWhite, Al, KP, Sam, PP

First player in NBA history to lead a champion in playoff points, rebounds, and assists and not win Finals MVP since the award was implemented.

That?s tough. Let him get it next year!
or they never get back and Tatum is forever shafted. The Finals MVP is a legacy award. Tatum is the player that will have the better legacy.  Giving it to anyone other than him, unless it isn't close hurts Tatum's legacy and it cheapens the award for the future. The leading scorer, rebounder, and assist generator who also happens to be the best player on the team, who takes the main focus of opposing defenses, and is asked to do so much, doesn't win. Might as well just not give the award out. It just doesn't mean anything.  Tatum drives the entire team and was better statistically.  Feel bad for him. He didn't get the legacy award he needed and this seems like 2015 all over again i.e. worse statistical player gets credit for holding other team best player to 30 ppg, while the guy most responsible for the team even being there and with the better stats, doesn't win.

Please just be happy for one night Mo. we won it all

This is a terrible take.

Finals MVP is not a legacy award.

Or if it is, tell me about Bird's legacy, or Magic's legacy, or Isiah's legacy, or Duncan's legacy, or Curry's legacy, or Garnet's legacy, and how it's impacted by not winning FMVP for everyone of their championships?

And since you always point out the importance of +/-, can we talk about how Jaylen had a better +/- throughout the Finals than Tatum?  Or is that stat not telling now? (edit - correction you talk about on/off, but Jaylen still had a better on/off this series than Tatum I think).

Personally, I love that Jaylen got this award, I love when the awards are spread out.  Tatum got All-NBA, Holiday and White got All-D, Brown got FMVP.  Happy everyone gets a little shine.

Yeah, Iguodala winning it was wild. I mean, the Warriors don?t win it without his defense on Lebron and I wanted Iggy to win it because of that. But in retrospect, I was a prisoner of the moment.

I thought JT deserved it, but I?m not upset that JB won it. I would?ve been fine too if Jrue won it, TBH

Celtics win the title tonight and here you are throwing a hissy fit that your binky didn?t win the FMVP.

What a joke.

I would have been shocked if Jaylen didn?t get it . He defended Luka 94 feet and stunted Dallas?s offense all series ( minus gsne 4 ofc) . Luka hinted Tatum and usually had his way.
Offense beats great defense and all that but I don?t believe any player in the nba coujd have guarded Luka any better. Certainly nobody on our team and I think Luka is the best player in the world.
There was also Jaylen showing consistent poise and did t fall into the standstill iso stuff too much at all. He was amazing on d .

Yeah I?m guessing it was the defense that put JB over JT in the end. Coz looking at it statistically, Tatum averaged 22-8-7 with 1.6 stocks. JB averaged 21-5-5 with 2.4 stocks. The 22-8-7 guy usually wins out

Part of me was wondering if Tatum got two more rebounds, and closed the Finals with a triple double, if that would have secured him the Finals MVP.

Having said that, I was once again happy for Jaylen in deserving yet another MVP award. They may have put up similar numbers, but Jaylen was clutch in key moments this series, and his defense on Luka was the clincher.

I think it wasn?t so much the numbers as it was the series seemed to come down to game 3 and Brown completely dominated the 2nd half of that game.

With that moment stuck in voters minds he was going to win anything remotely close I think.
