Not the end all or anything, but just something to give more consideration to what Tatum is doing on the floor despite not shooting well and some questionable drives here and there.

I will admit that I am defending Tatum.  He is my boy and I feel that he is getting a raw deal.  So because of that, I may be being over protective of him.  But the graph above is perfect.  That singular combined stat seems to order all 20 players pretty much where I feel they should be based on just watching the games.  Porzingis may be a bit low but that is because he is not playing full minutes (I would draft Porzingis over Washington).  But I think everyone else is listed pretty much how they would be drafted if you were picking teams to play a game tomorrow.

And this doesn't even account for rebounds.  Doncic and Tatum both lead their teams in rebounds so if you accounted for this, it would separate the top 2 even more.  It is interesting that Doncic has exactly 0 ORebs.  Not all rebounds are created equal.  But Doncic gets his share.  It is easier to rack up rebounds if you aren't playing defense though.
Luka, JT and JB being at the top is to a large degree because they have the ball the most.  Their usage% are 31.8, 27.6 and 27.9 respectively.  Jrue on the other hand is putting up his numbers with only 14.2 usage%.

Of course the graph is just offensive focused.  If you offset it with a graph representing point given up defensively, Luka's standing would plummet.

And this is the key to the series, and one of my personnel pet peeves.  Luka is an undisputed top 3 player on almost every list, while JT and JB are fringe stars, with JT barely making the 1st team and JB not even making the 3rd team.  Many "experts" claiming Dallas had the 1st and 2nd best players in the series.  BS!!  Luka would not even make my second team, and might not make my third.  As good as he is as an offensive player, he is that bad on Defense.  In that respect he reminds me of IT.  The team can never truly be the best when Luka is so easy to beat defensively.  Luka is holding Dallas back.  KI as well, just not as drastically.  Heck, even Steph Curry is over rated in my book, and he plays better defense than Luka.  The reason the C's ARE GOING to win this series is they are a team of talented, balanced, unselfish 2WAY PLAYERS.  The C's are due for a couple excellent shooting games to match their couple of poor shooting games.  If they get one, and still play defense like they can, they will win by 30-50 points.  Dallas has been lucky the C's are not hitting their open shots like they usually do, let alone hit the contested ones they occasionally do.

Through 3 games, my new FMVP ranking:

1. Brown (24/6/6 with great defense and he hit some really big shots in game 3)
2. Tatum (22/9/7 and everything runs through him which is often underrated)
3. Holiday (15/8/4 with great defense and a calming maturity that this team desperately needed in past seasons)
4. White (16/4/4 with some really clutch shots)
1957, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1968, 1969, 1974, 1976, 1981, 1984, 1986, 2008, 2024

I didn't update this after game 4 because it was so bad it didn't feel like anyone could be FMVP.

It's close enough now that a big enough game could put any of Tatum, Brown, or Holiday in the lead.

Up until tonight I have it as follows:

1. Tatum
2. Brown
3. Jrue
4. Porzingis

If this order remains will depend a lot on this game.

At half time Tatum was -160, Brown was +110. Before the game started Tatum was +200 and Brown was -225.

So the momentum is clearly going Tatum's way
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Really hope he wins it. I think it's in the team's best interests for them to split the two MVP awards with Tatum winning this one, especially when he honestly had a better statistical case than Brown in the ECF.

But to avoid all the terrible narratives of JT vs JB, I really hope JT wins. He deserves it.

I think its should still be Brown. Guarded Doncic amazingly all series.

But its very close, and either guy winning it would be justifiable imo

Tatum with 29-11-7 and 4:39 to go. He's got a strangle-hold on the FMVP right now.

Can't ignore Jrue's 15-11-4, though. So many huge rebounds tonight.

Tatum is leading the team in points, rebounds, and assists in the finals, just as ge did in ECF.  Hard to do that 2 straight series and not win mvp in either. I'd be very surprised if Tatum didn't win it.

Brown should get Finals MVP

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Same. It has to be Tatum.

Not just because of the numbers, but because everything runs through him. There has to be reward for that.

MVP to Tatum easily, but I love what Jru did for us.

ya if you want to tell me tie goes to Tatum because he didn't win ECFMVP then sure. I thought Brown was meaningfully better the first three games, but tatum was better tonight. Its close.

Wow, they gave it to Brown.
