It was probably a 5-4 vote, but I think that's the right call. Guarded Doncic all series very well. Sacrificed a ton this season missing All-NBA mostly because he took fewer shots this year.

Tatum will win it next year.

Folks are going to wake up tomorrow and look at the numbers and be really confused as to why JB won FMVP.

That said... I love this for him.

It's honestly quite bizarre. Just felt like the narrative got out of hand and the media couldn't bring themselves to give it to Tatum.

It's not that Brown was unworthy but Tatum sure seemed to deserve it more. Not a big deal to me, personally, but it's just bizarre.

I was also surprised, but there wasn?t a clear obvious mvp from Boston, and guarding Luka all series def deserves significant credit.  Jayson clearly the best player on the Celtics tonight.

Yeah, it's not a huge deal, but I just hate the narratives that will come from this, especially as much as JT has sacrificed. Also - Brown only wins this because of Tatum's gravity and getting the full focus of the defense, which is something that is completely lost in the discussions.

Also, it wouldn't be as big of a deal if Tatum didn't also get robbed of the ECF MVP, where he was clearly the better player with better stats. JB just had the narrative with hitting some of the big shots.

Happy for JB, but I just wish it would've been split for the sake of the team and the narratives.

I thought Jaylen?s defense to start the game on doncic was phenomenal and his overall run was better but Tatum probably did by a smidge deserve finals mvp

Oh well! Champs!

I thought Tatum was the clear, obvious MVP. He led the team in points, rebounds, and assists in the Finals while taking whatever defensive assignment they gave him.

Luka averaged just shy of 30 ppg entering tonight.

A possibly forgotten footnote - JBs steal and three to send it to OT in G1 v. Indy should go down among the great clutch sequences in Cs history. Not quite Bird steals the ball over to DJ, but definitely pulled victory out of the jaws of defeat.

or they never get back and Tatum is forever shafted. The Finals MVP is a legacy award. Tatum is the player that will have the better legacy.  Giving it to anyone other than him, unless it isn't close hurts Tatum's legacy and it cheapens the award for the future. The leading scorer, rebounder, and assist generator who also happens to be the best player on the team, who takes the main focus of opposing defenses, and is asked to do so much, doesn't win. Might as well just not give the award out. It just doesn't mean anything.  Tatum drives the entire team and was better statistically.  Feel bad for him. He didn't get the legacy award he needed and this seems like 2015 all over again i.e. worse statistical player gets credit for holding other team best player to 30 ppg, while the guy most responsible for the team even being there and with the better stats, doesn't win.
