This playoffs run and these MVPs are going to do wonders for JB?s standing across the league. Hoopshype have JT and JB as 7 and 8 on their ranking of best players going into next year, though they admit that availability weighed heavily in their rankings (knocking Embiid way down).

Brunson ahead of Tatum is total and utter nonsense.
It really isn't nonsense. You can argue about who should be on top of who, but nonsense it's not. Brunson had a spectacular season, to say nothing about his playoff run.
While true, it's weird that defense is often disregarded when ranking players.
Yeah I don't get that either. That is why Luka falls short a bit for me. You can't play half of the game and expect to be considered the best in the NBA. He is probably the #1 offensive player in the NBA. So being a poor defender only drops you down to #2 overall? Seems like it should impact things more than that. Luka was hunted over and over again on def. He doesn't move his feet, he gives poor effort a lot. I am not sure how to quantify it, but he gives up a lot of points. That should diminish his standing, but it doesn't seem to.
It is because he is so good offensively. I mean in the 4 Boston wins in the finals Luka was -23 in 161 minutes. In the 31 minutes he was on the bench, the Mavs were -27.
-23 or -27 is still a minus. So he was more valuable to a losing effort. Big deal. The winningest player ever, Bill Russell, wasn't a great scorer. Today's NBA analysts would put Tommy H. in front of Russell because he scores. Brunson ahead of Tatum is ridiculous.
I think the point was that in all the minutes he was on the court Mavs were only -23 compared to the relatively few minutes he wasn?t they were -27.
Yes. The Celtics are a superior team top to bottom. Just better everywhere after Luka. Without Luka the Mavs would have been swept in 40 point beat downs and lucky to score 80 points in any game.
Luka was +30 in their win, so he was actually +7 in the series and positive overall in 2 games (3 and 4).
The Mavs need a guard that can defend next to Luka. Irving is a worse defender and an inconsistent offensive player. He isn't the right 2nd option for that team. They also need a big guy that can shoot that is better than Kleber
