KP out 5-6 months after surgery.

That?s so odd. Everything I read said it was a relatively simple procedure with an 8 week recovery period. I know they?ll bring him back slowly but an extra 3-4 months makes it pretty obvious that that 8 week estimate was wrong. I wonder why.

5-6 months before he returns to play would him back on the court at the 'real' start of the season at the latest - right around Christmas.

I suppose it's different once an actual surgeon opens someone up and sees the extent of the injury which they might have found imperfect to do with an MRI or using "rule of thumb". How they chose to remedy it can also affect the recovery time.

It's also possible the Celtics want some extra wiggle room with the league in case they want to rest him for longer, or have concerns about his ability to rehabilitate quickly.
Any odd typos are because I suck at typing on an iPhone :D

Assuming 5-6 months start after July. So by December or January.

Sounds about right as I anticipated. Maybe rest him an extra month so he gets the full wheels going and come on in by all star weekend  ;D

Not to be Debbie Downer , I suspected it might be Christmas to mid Jan for his grand return.  That?s a lot on 38 year old Al.  I hope he can survive.

We sure could use a young healthy center.  ;D

It's a tremendous opportunity for Queta, Tillman, Kornet, or whatever other big we get.

I'm entirely happy with a mid Jan return for KP. Play Al every other day. Put in Luke, or any other warm body we can find. We're still good enough that we'll be near the top of the division.

Hopefully they?re fitting him with Titanium ankles while they have him open.

I hope they?ve adjusted for inflation and are prepared to spend more than $6 million.  ;)

Still can't believe the whole "load management" rule. It's insane that teams can't be allowed to decide who plays.

I don't hate the minimum requirement for all-nba teams tho. But again, just in the same way that defense is not enough part of the equation, actual playing time is not enough... All-NBA voters, media guys, are just as bad as dumb fans.

Luka should be lucky to get 3rd team.

most of the sports doctors said its usually an 8 week injury, but possible they also saw some tendon damage and repaired that. also said he's not too concerned about full recovery and returning to the same player

also have to wonder if Boston is being very cautious with KP. everyone knows the real season doesn't start until after the all star break.

Boston was lucky in some ways they were able to steamroll to a finals with having him for basically 5 games. but say next year boston has to face a healthy bucks, knicks, sixers, Denver. I think you want the 7 ft 3 20ppg 7rpg player available.

it was pretty obvious in game 1 vs Mavs how different this team looks with him.

The thing is its a VERY rare injury, its rare on a "whole country" level let alone on a 7'3 NBA player level. So its hard to much much stock in expected timelines when its sort of an unprecedented injury.
