I personally think we have two years left with Porzingis and Holiday. After that, 1 of them is definitely gonna get dealt. Or they can just let KP's contract expire and it's his choice if he wants to return for cheap like Horford has in the past few years.

I think it will be the other way around. Porzingis is 6 years younger than Jrue. Horford will be totally done 2 years from now, we will need Porzingis long term. Jrue will be 36 years old. He can return for cheap like Horford did.

I don't think we can expect a 30 year old KP to sign a contract at $10M/yr. If he remains healthy at all, then he will command at least as much as he is making now.

My point was more so that Porzingis' extension will expire here after 2026. So in theory that money is off the books. Then at that point, you can maybe find his replacement (ideally a cheaper one) or if KP actually loves it here he can stay for cheaper. Not 10M a year, but also not max money.

The 2nd apron is gonna become a real thorn for us after next year, I wonder how Wyc and Brad will navigate it all. I'm already expecting 2 of Hauser/Tillman/Kornet to be gone, then Horford retires maybe in 2-3 years. This is where we need to hope Queta, Springer and Walsh among others can rise to the occasion even if as solid role player options.

I don't see Stevens letting go of Porzingis if he is anywhere near healthy 2 years from now. Our ceiling is so much higher with him and we will not find a big man anywhere near the quality of him or Horford for cheaper. We also know he fits both in terms of playing style and personality with this team, which is a big deal.

I do think the hope is for guys like Tillman, Springer and Walsh to develop and replace guys like Horford and Jrue as they get older.

Yep. I wish these new salary cap rules and the 2nd apron stuff didn't exist. It didn't in the past and it helped Golden State. I know GSW still paid a lot of luxury tax but if they had done the same stuff now it might not have been as realistic for them.

Well back when GS was dominating everyone was complaining it wasn?t fair because they could just spend and spend and something had to be done to make it fairer for others?now we?re in their position we have a different viewpoint we want to be able to keep making our dominant team better  :police:

In a way it?s makes the Patriots dynasty even more impressive, given the NFL has a hard salary cap. You have to constantly refresh your team by shipping out players as they get overpriced and find undervalued gems elsewhere.

Agreed.  Even though Zinger wasn't 100% in the Finals he was a matchup nightmare for Dallas when he was on the court.

The good thing about KP is that he presumably won't command a huge contract given his injury risk and load management.  Brad already gave him a reasonable extension.  I'm not too concerned about him missing games to manage the stress on his body.  Plus, keeping him around will keep JB happy.  From my observations, KP was the major key in unlocking JB's elevated play this season in terms of passing/better decision making.  Their chemistry will be even better next season.

The new rules are a double-edged sword. They make creating a super team harder in order to increase parity, but that also means that if a super team does manage to form then it's much harder for other teams to get enough talent to challenge them. As long as ownership is willing to pay the tax to keep the team together, we're gonna stay as the most talented team in the league for a couple of years.

Things will get difficult once Horford loses a step/retires, but until then the rules aren't making us worse, just stopping us from getting better (or at least making it a lot here for us to get better)
I'm bitter.

When a healthy KP is on the floor with starting four , they fly at a different height .  They look unstoppable. It?s beautiful basketball.

yeah, they honestly may need to manage him even more next year than they did this year. we didn't need him to win this one. but, you really want him there if all teams are at full strength. its what puts us above the other teams.

The Celtics won't immediately be in any real trouble, but the truth is that they probably only have about 2 more years before re-repeater tax penalties and draft pick punishments make them have to let somebody go and re-set a bit. If they don't the tax bills will be astronomical and their draft picks will start getting sent to the back of the first round (7 years later).

With Al on a 1 year deal and now 38, and KP having 2 years and being injury prone I think center is the #1 position they have to figure out long term.

I continue to find it ludicrous to penalize an organization for doing a good job putting a championship-caliber roster together.
I don't object to some limits and guidelines, but the current CBA is way too much.
The Four Celtic Generals:
Russell - Cowens - Bird - Garnett

The Four Celtic Lieutenants:
Cousy - Havlicek - McHale - Pierce

Yeah that's a bummer but probably expected. He definitely wasn't gonna contribute much in the Olympics anyways with the injuries he has.
