It was fun while it lasted.

I can't recall exactly but I think my prediction or assessment was that they were a 0.500 level team.  They played over their heads at times, and are now reverting back to their mean.  They simply don't have a major league rotation.  I thought their bullpen would be fine or better, but even that is starting to wear down.

It might not be that hard to fix the pitching but they will need to spend some money.  It doesn't seem like they are developing enough good pitchers to to solve it that way.  Buying pitching is tough.  Pitchers get hurt.  But they are not going to be any better next season unless the rotation is better.

Baseball America updated its ranking after the Rays' Junior Caminero graduated from prospect status.

(Red Sox)Roman Anthony now sits at the No. 1 position in Baseball America?s annual Top 100 Prospects ranking after the Rays Junior Caminero the original No. 1 graduated from prospect status.

The ranking was based on discussions with scouts, analysts, and coaches as well as the Baseball America Prospect Handbook and previous rankings.

Anthony is among a total of six prospects from Boston that made the ranking, with Marcelo Mayer at No. 10, Kristian Campbell at No. 24, and Kyle Teel at No. 25. All three were promoted to Triple-A Worcester alongside Anthony last month.

Baseball America wrote, [Anthony?s] poised to reach the majors before his 21st birthday, and he has a combination of power and plate discipline that should serve him well for years to come.

Fun game tonight. O?Neil with the no-doubter walk-off HR in extras to beat the Orioles and keep our faint hopes alive.

So, he'll be traded to the Dodgers for peanuts around 2028/29? ;D

I'm just not sure about our pitching going forward. Sure, Houck and Kutter took strides, but Bello regressed and there's still some durability concerns with the first two I mentioned. Not sure about Whitlock but frankly he feels like a long term reliever to me. Pivetta's solid as a back-end inning-eater. But for most of the year they basically had 1 spot in the rotation open due to Whitlock being hurt which was filled with the likes of Paxton/Hill/Criswell/Winck, etc. Who else is coming up from the system that should help immediately?

They really need to address it this offseason, but idk if they will

Lucas Giolito should be available next season.  He signed a two year contract.  One down and one to go....

They're going to need to do a lot more than just get Giolito back. They have no ace, or anyone even close to being an ace. Pivetta's very inconsistent. Bello, Houck, and Crawford may have hit their ceiling already. They need a couple of proven, high-quality commodities for the rotation.

The Red Sox have pitchers like the Patriots have receivers. A bunch of young guys that might pan out, but realistically, they're all a bunch of #3's.

Another tough loss. This team just isn't ready.
